We had stayed at kodaikanal, or kodai as its rurally called. We stayed at "Pine Borogh Inn" its on top of a cliff and is a very romantic retreat. Its affordable priced and very strategically placed, as its just 2 min walk from the local market as well as tucked in away from the hustle and bustle of tourists. The hotel's staff however try a little to fleece the customers with a little edge up on all the stipulated rates.
We got slightly irritated as they were always increasing the rates suddenly and saying that the new rates apply from today, this happened in room rates, food, tour packages etc.:) however we talked our way out of it with a lot of trouble. We managed to find a good driver somehow and stuck with all our tours with him, its always better to go for tours with the local drivers there and not with the hotel's tour operators, you will always be charged 500-800 extra per tour as commission by the hotel.
The driver we went with was a nice man and patiently took us out to all the places. We also bought a lot of home made chocolates and spices and stuff that grow there, you also get pure eaucalyptus oil and wintergreen oil, which helps for colds and joint pains.
Boating, coakers walk, suicide point, guna caves, pillar rocks, palani view, liril falls were some beautiful locations. Also dont miss chettiar park. and bryant park. They have unbelievable varieties of flowers there, I wish I could post more pics, but the website isnt allowing me to.
