There are times when you don't go to watch a film without any expectations, but the outcome takes you by surprise. Tom Dick And Harry, directed by Deepak Tijori, is one film that falls into this category.I did not expect anything when I went to trial show of the film organised by distributors Asthavinayak films here in UK but there was plesant surprise in store! The film is a chill pill, a film that puts a smile on your face and yes, paisa vasool entertainment at its best!

Tom, Dick and Harry live together as paying guests.

Dick [Anuj ]is a photographer who lost his eyes and comes to Mumbai for an eye operation. He thinks that as he cannot see a girl, it doesn't matter whether she is ugly or dark. He gets beaten by a lot of them, embarrassing Tom and Harry in the process. Harry [Jimmy Sheirgill ] is a mute character while Tom[Dino] is a deaf.

Things go smooth until Celina [Celina Jaitley]arrives on the scene as their new neighbour. They try and impress her like, but she completely ignores them.Celina Ja also owns the restaurant-cum-bar where they work. And yes, Bijli the fisherwoman, played by Kim Sharma, is in love with Tom.

Arrives bad man; Gulshan Grover. And the trio - Tom, Dick and Harry - unknowingly become the biggest hurdle in his business deals! What follows is a hilarious joyride!!

Though the story has some shades of Pyare Mohan, it has enough steam to keep your laughter engine running full speed. TDH marks off a new beginning in Tijori’s sagging career. The film is technically spectacular, musically sound and high on content showing off a new technology-savvy Deepak. In today’s times where it is so important for filmmakers to be market savvy and keep up with ever-changing audiences, Deepak seems to have struck the right balance. He ably blends humor with glamour, glitz, grandeur and adds some commercial spice to the mix serving up a snazzy, tasty and humorous cake called TDH.

What’s even more pleasing about the Deepak’s direction is that he doesn’t compromise content for presentation. While the film looks slick and glossy, it is highly engrossing and comes off as Deepak’s finest comedy to date.

Morever there are no no Pelvic Thrusts, and no double meaning conversations this time around too. What’s more, dialogues and screenplay bring the house down at various instances and frankly, are the highlights of the film. The fast pace has been evenly maintained throughout and the film moves at a brisk speed therefore, not leaving much room for boredom. The screenplay does have its share of flaws and the songs have been forced into the proceedings but the enterprise is so high on entertainment and laughs that one doesn’t mind neglecting the loopholes in the narrative. If Deepak can come up with something as funny as this with his upcoming directorial venture, TDH 2, I am up for it for sure!

As mentioned earlier, the film carries a polished look throughout and has been expertly crafted. Each and every frame looks well-decorated and the songs have been nicely canned. Watch out for Jiya and Jhoom - both have been superbly cinematographed. Art direction goes well with the film and enhances its overall look. Background score is top notch and boosts the impact. In a nut shell, this doesn’t look like just another comic flick and Deepak must be congratulated for coming up with a high quality product.

Himesh Reshammiya too plays his part well. He has come up with tunes tailor-made for a comic entertainer. The songs are racy, foot-tapping and entertaining to the say the least. Their expert picturization only adds to their effectiveness. My personal favorite is Jhoom. The song not only sounds groovy but is surely the best filmed dance number to come out in a while. I’ll personally prefer it any day over a certain 'Aashiqi' or chand sifarish.

TDH is a Dino Morea show all the way. Tom is a role tailor made for Dino and he does it so well that it is hard to imagine anyone playing the role. His expressions are utterly hilarious and he intones his voice to his maximum advantage.

Celina’s role requires her to be sweet and at times, sensuous and she does that with grace. She gets more footage than Kim and turns in a decent performance. Kim looks gorgeous and emotes extremely well. But she surely needs to improve her dubbing skills.

Jimmy is hilarious .Anuj on the other hand plays right to the gallery having been given the funniest lines out of all and every antic of his is downright funny.

Some mentionable scenes

-The telephone conversation between Gulshan ,Jimmy and Dino.

-The scene where Celina comes to the bar looking for a card that has been hidden!

-The trio of TDH in gate up of Mangal Pandey ,Amar Abar Anthony !

-The sequence where Anuj holds Rakesh Bedi's hand instead of Celina.

All up, TDH is the most entertaining film of the year by far. Superlative performances, hilariously devised situations, and wit at its best, TDH is hardcore entertainment of the highest order. So, leave your thinking caps at home and enjoy watching the wackiest comedy of the year .
