I just concluded a month long official trip to Japan and I had the opportunity to live and experience one of the greatest city of the world viz. Tokyo. The night I landed in Japan and made my way through its capital I was absolutely impressed by the hugeness of the city. Sky touching scrapers, complex network of flyovers one over the other and all the modern architecture were the things I witnessed during my short trip from Narita airport to Tokyo. And that was just the start of the Japanese marvels I was going to witnedd during rest of my stay.

My first day to the office, I took the Tokyo Metro. These trains are the lifeline of Tokyo just like Mumbai locals but much modern, much efficient and much cleaner. These lines cover almost whole of city. You just have to understand which line to take, where to change lines etc to reach your destination in no time.

I was staying at Nakano and my office was in Roppongi. Nakano was like a typical suburb consisting of only residential areas and shopping arcades. In contrast, Roppongi was a total business hub with high rises of MNCs like IBM, Xerox etc. Every living soul dressed in business suits rushing to their respective offices. The whole area flooded with numerous restaurants of all the world's cuisines. Working in that area was a fun in itself.

My Tokyo darshan happened only during weekends. Although Tokyo has so much places to visit and I had very less time, I tried to cover as much as possible.

I visited the Tokyo tower which will remind any Parisian of the Eiffel tower. Colored in alternating white and orange, it presents a huge spectacle during the night. I has got two observatory points at 160m and 320m where on a clear day you can even view Mt. Fuji.

I also visited the Imperial palace garden located in heart of Tokyo. It gives you a glimpse of traditional architecture of Japan but, alas, you aren't allowed to visit the Imperial palace itself.

Then there is this place called Akihabara which can be called as heaven for any gadget freak like me. This place is famous for its electronics market where you can see the latest models of cameras, mp3 players, comptuer peripherals etc. Must visit shop in this area is Yodobashi.

Another place worth visiting is Shinjuku. This place is a mix of fun and business. It has a huge market area which should be visited during night and it has the commercial area with high rises worth visiting during day. The Tokyo metoropolital building, the highest buiding in Tokyo, is also in Shinjuku.

Althought I missed several other places like Shibuya, Asakusa which were worth visiting but the whole stay was a never to be forgotten experience. May be I'll get another chance to see what I have missed.
