A web search engine is designed to search for information on the World Wide Web. Search engines are popular tools for locating web pages, but they often return millions of results. Search engines crawl the Web and log the words from the web pages they find in their databases.
Each search engine queried by a meta search engine returns results in the form of a result list of documents. The key issue is to combine these lists to achieve the best performance. Search services on the Internet come in two main flavors:'search engines' that index words or terms in Internet documents; and 'directories' that classify Web documents or locations into an arbitrary subject classification scheme or taxonomy.
Precision is a problem because of the high incidence of false positives. That is why you get so many seemingly irrelevant documents in your searches. Do you agree?
