Are seat covers really worth it

I recently bought a new car and like everyone else went to buy seat covers and accessories for it.

I bought fairly decent seat covers not the real expensive ones for about 15 thousand.

After watching the installation and the final outcome which I must say they did a decent job I got thinking!.

Why did I do this? How does it look compared to original, How does it feel?

And the answer was a shock!.

I put in the covers so that the original seat covers don't get dirty or damaged. but say after 3 years of being under the covers, lets say in pristine condition what good is it. all you get is clean seats in a old car!. Now lets see what it does to your new car feel. My car was a sedan with the armrest in the center of the back seat with the original seat, my kids were thrilled to use it and pull it down and use the tray and so on. After the seat cover installation, they feel its not as good as before, I must admit I agree with them.

Secondly at best you still get a new seat feel, but is it worth the money?.

Now lets say you did not put the covers, kids and people will drop things the seat will get dirty and say in 3 years will look old. well thats when you put in the new seat covers and make the feel better then "old".

In short nothing except maybe very expensive seat covers( No experience here) will enhance the new car feel, so save your money get something else for the car!.

I for one will not install seat covers in my next new car!

*Update: I recently had to remove the front seat cover to help pass cables for a set of headrest DVD players / displays and I was shocked and saddened even more about the seat covers. Now a days seats are curved, when you put a seat cover it does not take the shape of the seat, so there is a cord sticthed in the middle of the backside of the seat cover front. this cord is taken through the seat and tied behind the seat!. There are holes made in both the front and back of the original seat covers!. so in short if you want to ever use your original seats forget it!.

Check this point with the dealer before you buy seat covers!.**more updates: My friend recently bought a used 2 year car. it did not have seat covers on and was from a family with a small kid who seemed to have a free run of the car. The seats were stained from liquids and even had ball pen doodles on the passenger front seat. Now this was reason for seat covers. so one weekend we decided to go seat cover shopping, but before that he wanted to wash and polish the car. so we went to our neighborhood mall, car detailing shop. that's when we were offered a rs 1200 clean the inside with foam offer. we asked about the stains and were guaranteed that they would be gone or we will not have to pay. when we came back after 45 minutes there she was shining from outside and clean and nice smelling from inside, seats still moist, but spotless( even pen marks gone!).

so for 1200 we saved at least 12000 in seat covers,

seat covers! think again!
