UNLEADED petrol Vs SPEED vs Speed 93 vs Speed 97

Hi, What is special about Speed when you compare with normal unleaded fuel. Total research in here also use the right engine oil and increase your engine life. Look inside to know complete details. Most of you guys might be confused as to what it means(premium petrol) and how does it affect when compare to the ordinary fuel? Also you wonder if the extra bucks that you are paying for the premium petrol is worth! Even I was one among you and did a lot of research on this topic to find out the actual reason behind using this fuel. Listed below are the list which would answer all your queries.

1.The basic difference between these fuels is the OCTANE content in the fuel.

2.Speed has 90 octane content in it.

3.Speed 93 has 93 octane content in it.

4.Speed 97 has 97 octane content in it.

5.Now you would wonder how to determine which fuel goes with your bike/Car?

6.Most of the mechanics tell that these fuels are media hype and are there just to mint money from people who have deep pockets but that’s not true.

7.To determine what fuel is appropriate for your bike/car, you should first know a very important factor which is the COMPRESSION RATIO of your engine.

8.My research has proved the following results.

  • If the compression ratio is 7.5 then u need Octane 85 which is unleaded fuel

  • If the compression ratio is 9.0:1 then u need octane 90

  • I have an avenger and it has a compression ratio of 9.5 which means that I need Speed 93 and a better fuel would be Speed 97 but not the unleaded fuel(green petrol).

  • Now know where you can find the compression ratio of your vehicle.  In the technical specifications of almost any car/bike Owner's Manual that you have and it in generally the 4th or the 5th line which says Compression Ratio: 9.5(example). Just check that and do accordingly

  • Also most of the people tell me that they have been using normal petrol(unleaded) and their bike is perfect with no problem and as soon as they shift to the Premium petrol they start having problems with smoothness, mileage and other stuff.

  • My practical experience says that it takes time for the engine to get used to a fuel and you would definitely have some issues like I mentioned above for the first 500Kms that would be about 10Liters for a bike and about 40Liters for a car on an average.

Problems that generally happen when you use unleaded petrol wherein you have to use a premium one.

1)the engine knocks. This happens because the compression of gas inside does not fires the spark at the right time which makes you loose engine power and knocking sound when you try to accelerate

2)I love my bike and car and do all I can to keep them young forever which makes it very obvious that I think long term. If u love your bike/car and don’t mind shelling few extra bucks then go with the fuel that is suitable for it

3)One more very important thing, its waste of money if you are putting speed 97 or any other premium petrol when your bike/car actually needs unleaded(85 octane), so spend wisely.

Also would I like to mention a problem about the engine oil which I have found very common here in India. Let me start with what happened the other day. I have an avenger and wanted to buy genuine oil with specifications SAE 20W/50 of mobil 1 or Motul. I went to a place in Hyderabad where there were lotta stores selling the accessories and other related stuff and when I asked them to give an oil of the mentioned specs, they had a question mark on their face. I mean they did not understand what I was talking about and said that no such oil is available. I understood what they wanted to tell and asked them to show the oil which suits avenger, he popped out of his seat and had a look at my bike and gave me Castrol Power. I asked him if that was the rite one and he told me that this is the best engine oil available in the market. It would not have made sense if I had asked for the specs cuz they know nothing about that. Anyways when I checked thorougly it was 10W/40 and guys let me tell u as to what happens when you jus put any oil which does not match…. You start getting problem in the engine. Some common problems are sounds from engine in long run(2-3years of use),  Knocking of engine when driving which mite be negligible. So beware when you buy Engine Oil.

For all you guys who have avenger, I recommend Castrol Activ 4T  which suits the specs and also remember that its 1500ml and not 1000ml for avenger. This small things mite sound simple but these are the once that will make your bike/car run like new everytime.

Also change oil every 2500Kms Max. I change It every 1500Kms basically because I race all the time. One of my bike gurus asked me to go with mobil 1 oil which are about 6-8 times more expensive than ordinary oil but I am having hard time finding the place to buy  it here in Hyderabad. That is it from me. Will get back with more research which would be helpful to all of us soon. Also mail me on joel_nokia@yahoo.co.uk for any bike related queries. I assure I would do best of the research(Both practical and theoretical) to give you best of the best of best  answers:)

Cheers,

jOe…
