This review was meant to be written about the traffic police instead of the Auto rickshaws. Since I did not find any heading to specify traffic police, I have mentioned the review under travel.
For a year and a half I have had travelled in autos in chennai and believe me it was hell fighting with the auto guy to come down on the rates as the meter is only a show off and an added accessory which needs to be loaded at the timing of buying the autorickshaw.
Luck had it and I was transferred to Pune. Guess what the situation is even worse here. Atleast Chennai autos are clean. Here they do follow the meter but God knows if the meters are having some wings to fly or some inbuilt clocks which ticks faster than speed of light. The autos are unkempt and rickshaw guys are least bothered if the passenger is facing problems from the poky seats and open sides of the auto.
Anyways to get out of all these problems I got my bike from Chennai which I had bought 3 months getting transferred here. Some one did mention that you need to get an NOC and apply for re-registration here in Pune. Fine.. Done..
Belive me I have applied for the NOC in Chennai since 2 months with extra money to get it done faster and I am yet to get it.. I remember the smiling face of the RTO bugger taking money and promising me to get things done in a fornight. Believe me 4 fortnights have passed and I am tired of paying additional amount to these auto guys.
One day I did take the courage to go on my bike to office as I have seen other people with different number plates also travelling without much problem. To my wonderful luck I got caught in an area where there was no signal. And then gyan baazi started from the traffic police about NOC, POC, DL, Re-registration blah blah.. He did charge me a 1000 bucks as fine which according to law is not right. And for your information guys "**A traffic police is not eligible to charge you any fine in case of violation of traffic rules. He simply is not the right person to produce a challan to you."
After a long conversation, he did agree to leave me with a 200 bucks adjustment. Now is the interesting part which I call is heights of taking bribe. I didnt have 200 bucks in my wallet. Just a 100. He did come with me to the ATM to collect that money. And the worst part was seeing a girl he did start flirting and wasting my time instead of handing over my DL after taking his alm.
Seriously it was such a disgusting affair. Reminds me of the series by the name Office Office. Pankaj Kapoor has done an awesome job in replicating the real scenario behind these govt officials. And we celebrate republic day and independence day..
Anyways beware of such buggers and try not to argue with them as they seem to know more than you do as they have the tag of security guys on their shoulders.
