Hostel Life-A learning experience!

Every phase in life is a learning experience by itself and I realised this when I got into a hostel. When I came to Delhi to study I wasn't very keen to live in the hostel but my parents coaxed me to and after spending two years of my life there I realised how important it is for a person to live in the hostel and how much one can gain living there. Its a learning experience b'coz you get an oppurtunity to face life, people and situations all on your own which prepares you to face life ahead in a more mature and better way. From my experience this is what a person can learn living in the hostel.

ADJUSTMENT

Life is an adjustment but we do not realise it until we are made to live in a different atmosphere and with new and different people. When we live with our parents all our wishes are fulfilled and we tend to do things our way, so there is no question of adjustment, but you cannot expect or do the same living in the hostel.Like for example I shared my room with three girls and its quite obvious that we all have different nature, likes and dislikes and if we do not adjust with each other life can be miserable so we learn to become more mature in our approach and tend to accept the person the way he\she is and that for me is adjustment.

Then I also feel that living in a hostel we do not get all the luxuries that we get at home like maybe a television or music system all for ourself and even the food in the hostel is pretty bad but still we have to live there and live there happily so again we make an adjustment coz we know that we cannot possibly get all the things we want.So that way living in the hostel, teaches us the most important lesson that one should learn to live and adjust in all situations and with all people.

INDEPENDENT\SELF-CONFIDENCE

Living in the hostel I learnt to be independent and make my own decisions. When we our living in our home there are so many people to look after us and so many people ready to do our work but in a hostel you have to depend all on your self and do all your work. You have to wash your clothes, utensils, give your clothes for ironing, keep your bed and almira clean and even learn to arrange your rail-tickets and open your bank account which otherwise 'ld not have mattered to you.Even when you are ill or having some problems you have to keep doing your work coz you know that there is no one to look after you, so you tend to become strong and learn to rely on yourself for your work which in turn develops confidence in your own self b'coz you realise your worth and what you are capable of.

MONEY MANAGMENT

This is yet another important thing that I learnt living in the hostel, how to manage my expenses and how to live in a limited budget. My father used to give me money every two to three months and then it was my responsibility how I had to use the money, how much to spend and on what to spend. We only value money and realise its worth when it is given to us to spend all on our own and thats how I learnt how to use a specific amount of money properly in a period of time.

DISCIPLINE

Well I always believe that it is very important to live a disciplined life but that only happens when you work according to a schedule and that way hostel life is really good because at home we tend to laze around and take things for granted but here I know that if I don't reach the Mess by 7.30a.m I am not going to get my breakfast so I am right there on time .And once you begin your day early and properly the other things will  follow up.So definitely u learn to live a disciplined life in the hostel which according to me is very important.

These are small small things but they help you a lot later in your life. But if living in the hostel has its advantages it has its disadvantage too, sometimes people esp girls tend to take advantage of their freedom and try to do everything they were never allowed to do at home like maybe get in to drugs, smoking or living with a boyfriend and I also feel that since there is no one to guide you in the hostel you tend to take wrong decisions at times and there also people who try to spoil you.

But its how you look at things, if you have confidence in your self and if you look forward to learning in life then nobody can spoil you.Be honest to yourself and your parents who have left you their with their trust in you so that you can learn something. So its you who has to decide which way to go and choose.

If you get a chance to live in the hostel, live there and I can assure you that you will be a completely different person when you come out from there b'coz I feel that you learn the most when you live in the toughest of situations.
