Whatta a topic??.. This is like Mama telling Beti "Apne Sasural mein jaake aise rehna.. waise rehna... "How can one learn from somebody about how to lead a life in Hostel? Why did I go to

Hostel?

  • Because I wanted to have fun the way SRK used to have in Fauji or the students of Neev(the ujjain waala school serial) or buss just filmon ka aur idiot box ka asar on a Idiot.

Did I like the experience?

  • You Bet..

There can be no set of rules for leading a Life in Hostel. AS in my opener line(too much of cricket getting everywhere..Hmm), how can a newly wed Dulhan learn something from her maika about how to deal with all the silly people in the new house? Even then, she is given some nuske.. Here goes some do-don’ts based on my Hostel experiences to all those newlys;-). May not be applicable everywhere but then just y’day my Hostel Life was appreciated by another unknown person(now he is known) from another totally different college. He had to stay in our Hostel for couple of weeks and seems was completely in awe of the activities there. :_)

All said, everybody’s Hostel Life is immemorable. I haven;t met anybody who complained about their Hostel Life. Each is a unique experience in its own way.

-If you staying in a hostel with your seniors, never try to make them realise that You are carefree or enjoying your newly earned freedom in a manner that the whole world is able to make out. You are calling for trouble.

-Make friends with one and all. You never know who will help in need... I mean who will pay ur bills in your dire situations. After 15th of every month, you are sure to run out of your pcoket money(how much ever your Pops may be sending you).

-Make it a habit not to go to bed early as you will hardly be given a chance to sleep early in Hostel. More than that, there will lot of funny and informative things that you will lose if you don’t get rid of that early to Bed syndrome.

-Having said that, try to follow the timings of the IN and OUT of Hostel, else you will end up sitting outside begging the watchman to get you IN without the knowledge ofthe Warden. One way to convince is to learn the basics of bribing the watchman. Your warden will still come to know. That he will use in your academics. Now that will keep you to find avenues of dealing Warden/Academician

-Never ever ever get your buddies get a feel that you do not drink alcohol else you will be the Chota Bhai of Naseeb escorting at least more than one Bade Bhais back home safe from the Bar. Even though, your buddies will shower prasie in a drunken mood about how good a friend you are, You will end up listening to some of the most BS crappy things ever thought of, may be some times may be you could be the subject.

-When eating food, never ever bother to investigate how the food is prepared. You will never be able to enjoy it. Even today I fail to get the same taste of the roadside kababs, or the chais, or pattis that I ate during my Hostel Life. Could be that those things had a typical kerosene smell or a ’phata huwa’ milk’s taste or that sandy flavour but when you are hungry at 2 am in the early hours, those are your Gajar ka Halwas so respect them. ;-)

-Ragging..... Unfortunately, most of the freshers these days are really running into silly raggings(Tere Naam kindish), but you never know try to be honest and just like any other situation, realise your limit and take steps. You are not alone.

-Study.. Please don;t ask me(if somebody has a thot.. just in case//). I never did in Hostel. All I learnt there was to meet people, make fun and sometimes be at the receiving end and gain knowledge day by day by discussing the most important affairs going on around including the professors..

-Politics - Every college has some political activity associated as youth make hell lot of difference. If you are a Hari Raam kind of guy... (Rama is a good boy), Never mind Go with the Flow. You might learn some aspects of dealing Life after College.

-If you ever have to drink alcohol before an important VIVA or exam the next day, make sure you go to bed early and get enough time to get rid of the hangover else you will end up asking the teachers for translation of simple things like "What is that called.... ?? That one which spins round and round??? Its called Paiyyan in Hindi.."... and your teacher although responding back "Oh You mean.. Wheel" very patiently, but screwing you at the time of grades.

-Attendance..

After being occupied with so many things, better make sure you have a Proxy for your attendance. Thats how you learn making deals.

-Ability of Singing

Make use of the Hostel Corridors/bathrooms/Canteens and all such places during Hostel Life to

test your singing Range or Pitch. If you don’t, you will repent later for having lost such a golden oppurtunity to hone your skills.

Abruptly............. stopped. Will be updated as I recollect.

For more tips, listen and get inspired from this gem of a song by Ali Haider.

Purani jeans aur guitar

Mohalle ki woh chhat Aur mere yaar

Woh raaton ko jaagna

Subah ghar jaan Kood ke deewar

Vo cigaretee peena Gali mein jaake

Wo karna daanton ko Ghadi ghadi saaf

Bas yaadein Yaadein Yaadein reh jaati hain

Kuchh chhoti Chhoti Baatein reh jaati hain

Bas yaadein..

Bahut Gyaan Ho Gaya.............. Me to Bed.. Ah.. Time to dream my Hostel days.....
