I am a flute player and I am learning Hindustani classical music for flute currently. I have experience some knowledge and I am sharing it. Hindustani classical music is something that is respected by the whole world. Now I have seen that how foreigners respect and learn our classical music. The reason behind is the power of feelings in Indian classical music. Indian classical music comprises of 12 notes in a octave like in ascending sa re ga ma pa dha ni sa and in descending vice versa, the rest four notes are- re komal, ga komal, ma komal, dha komal, and ni komal. Komal means sharp.
Researches have been done in Indian classical music for their medical effect, they are so benefitial and acts as medicine in variouscases.
Indian classical music is so much expressive. It contains of playing ragas with taal given in Tabla. Ragas comprises of fixed notes for ascending or descending and played. The best thing is classical music in concerts composes almost everything at the time of playing. There are various stages in ragas like alap, bandish, taan, jod, jhala. Keeping in mind the notations classical players gives wonderful melodies which express the feeling of that particular raga. Each and every raga signifies some feelings like Raga Yaman, Hansdhwani signifies happiness, Raga deepak signifies heat or fire, Raga bhairav is very serious raga.
Indian classical music is the roots and all the rest musics are its stem, branches etc. Practicing Hindustani classical music takes the music senses yo a master level, like for vocal players- classical music opens their ranges, for Bansuri players- classical music opens up the fingers flexibility, enhances the tone quality and makes fingers soft on flute. For a well classical player light music or Bollywood music becomes so easy to play.
