5 tips to buying, and selecting your grocries

It’s that time of the week, grocery shopping!  I have learned a few lessons over the years, and thanks be to my mommy for helping me out.  Here are a few tips that she taught me, and believe me they sure did make a big difference in the final bill of my groceries that day.

Tip 1

No matter what, never I repeat never go into any grocery store when you are hungry, my moms says this is one big NO, NO.  I tend to agree with her, so when it’s that day to go buy food I make sure that I have eaten before I leave.  I have found that by eating before I left I tend to not buy as much unwanted food then I did when I was hungry.  Makes sense huh?  If your hungry and you go shopping you seem to want all the goodies, and the sweats and things that you really just don’t need, and everything in the store looks so yummy to you when you are hungry.  So eat before you shop.

Tip 2

It is best if you make out a list of what you want to eat for the week, (I shop for my food weekly).  When I make a list of what I want each day for our dinner it makes it much easier for me to buy only the foods that are required for that meal each day.  I also make a separate list of goodies that my family and I want each week.  Then when I’m in the store I tend to buy only the things that are on my list.  This also makes it faster and saves time when you shop, and you are not thinking “what should I buy for dinner all week.)

Tip 3

Try to find a store that will accept coupons.  Then go online and find food coupons, or some times in your local newspaper you will have coupons.  This is a great way to help save money on your food bill.  Clipping coupons can be a hassle sometimes, but now that we have the Internet we can just print them out off line.  I know the store I shop in will double any of my coupons up to 50 Cents.  So that makes it a total of$1.00 off that product in the end.  Also if your store has a shopper’s card make sure you sign up for it.  This will help when they have certain items of food on sale, but only for those who carry the shopper’s card.  At my local Bi-Lo store they have this card and it gives me as the customer extra discounts on food.

Tip 4

Try to always keep to one grocery store.  This will help you be familiarized with their products, and where you can find them.  It will also help you keep aware of the regular priced items and then you can see if other stores are having any sort of sales on those items and if it would be better for you to go to the other store for those products or not.

Tip 5

I ay if you can Never, I repeat never take a child with you when you go for groceries.  They tend to cry around asking for candy and chips and goodies that you really don’t need or afford.  Then as a mom sometimes you just get upset and figure that it would easier for you to just buy that food for them to shut them up instead of hearing them cry all the time through the store.  Taking kids I have found made my bill more at the end of the day then it would if they were NOT with me.  So if you can do your best to not take them with you.  I know this can be hard because most of the time the “woman” is the one who buys the food, and they tend to have to take their children with them.

So there you have my top 5 tips on buying groceries.  I hope they help you out I know they have me.  So go and have fun buying all the food you need and watch your food bill decrease.
