Dear MSians.

I would like to thank you all for supporting me and helping me grow better everyday.

With this review of mine, I would like to say a goodbye to all you friends here. I think I am not able to fulfill my duties properly due to MS. Completely my fault, I agree. Will come back if the addiction doesnot vanish.

So I have decided to write a review on my favourite topic - Music. Enjoy reading it as it is the last in the series. You will never be tortured again by my philosophical and technical reviews on music.

The Review

The topic created by MS is a sea, from where I have picked up a very small amount of water in this review. My review targets the current copying trends in Indian music industry. That too specifically from Pakistani songs.

Bollywood and Plagiarism go hand in hand. Right from the time of Shanker Jaikishan to the latest music directors like Pritam, all have done it. The trend during earlier times was to do the copying in a closed room, copy a lesser known tune and formulate it to fit bollywood music. The latest trend is just the reverse. Pakistan has the most number of listeners of Bollywood music after India. Even after knowing this fact, the current music directors continue to copy songs from the other side of the border. I will quote a few examples to make my point stronger.

I rate the above fact as purely logical and sensible on part of the highly talented music directors which India has today. But the question arises - Why only Pakistan? Why not the hollywood pop tunes, as we have done it many a times? Well I cannot read mind, but the only thing which looks logical to me is the similarity of music and audience. Pakistani music also follow the same raga system followed in Hindustani form of music. The only thing which Pakistan fortunately has is its love for melody. This is the key for plagiarism in Bollywood currently.

The Songs

1. Chhori Chhori, movie - Fight Club

A direct lift from Ali Zafar's number Chhanno ki aankhen. Though the credit has been given to Ali Zafar for this number, it only happenned when Ali Zafar approached Pritam.

2. Agar Tum Mil Jao, movie - Zehar

Directly lifted word by word from Tasavvur Khanum's Agar Tum Mil Jao. Now the relationship between Bhatts and Pakistani music is not new. They have a lot of famous songs which were a direct lift from PAkistani music. Tumhein Apna Banaane Ki Kasam - Sadak was a blatant lift from Musarrat Nazir's Chale to kat hi jaayega.

3. December, movie - Chocolate

Pritam has decided to take atleast two copied songs in one movie. The song in question has been copied from Abrar-ul-haq's number - December. The original song is simply miles ahead of the copied version.

4. Ankhiyaan Na Maar, movie - Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena

Directly lifted from Waris Baig's Chhalla. The copied version has a lot of oohs aahs and hip hop beats. But as far as melody is concerned, Waris Baig wins the race by miles.

5. Bheege Honth Tere, movie - Murder

The song was originally composed by Najam Sheraz. When he saw the plagiarism, he launched the original song in India called Mainu Tere Naal. But the blind people of India thought it to be a copy:).

The Verdict

The melody will never die. We have PAkistani songs to provide the base melody to the slowly dying classical based tunes of Bollywood.

*I bid adieu to all my friends, mentors at MS now. You can always M2M me and expect me to reply very soon. Hope to come back and write in the future.

Regards,

Himanshu aka madsadman
