WineTasting

When we were younger we had a bar that was filled with every time of alcohol bottles. From Almanac, a variety of Beer, Bourbon, Cognac, Liqueurs, Port, Ryes, Screech, ( a whisky from Newfoundland), Whiskies and Wine.

Today it’s mostly wine and beer. If I'm going to buy wine then I had to learn how to'wine taste'.

:Wine:

Did you know it you had a glass of wine, (for breakfast, lunch and dinner), every day of your life, you wouldn't have tasted all of the wines in the World?

To write a review about wine, you have to use all of your senses, (hearing, , moving, seeing, tasting and feeling).

:Hearing:

Take a bottle of wine and uncork it. Did you hear the'pop'?

:Moving:

Pick up a wine glass, and hold it by the stem, (don't put your fingers on the glass or you won't be able to see what's in it, correctly).

Tip your glass a bit and pour the wine into it.

:Seeing:

Use a light coloured wall, (white is the best).Look at the wine and see it there is any thing floating in it, (a bit of the cork for example).

Is the colour of the wine clear or Opaque? Look at the top, (rim), of the wine and compare it to the bottom, (core).

Red Wines

A pink or purple rim, means that this is a young wine, and needs time to age.

A terra cotta or pink rim, means that this wine has been aged properly, and it is fit to drink.

If you see a brown rim, don't drink the wine, and pour the bottle down the drain, in your kitchen sink. Remember to keep the bottle, because you can give it to a recycling plant.

White Wines:

White wines are harder to see the difference between the rim and the core. A golden colour means the wine has been aged over oak.

:Smelling, (this is called the nose):

Hold the glass under your nose and sniff it. Then swish the wine in the glass and smell it again. You will see that the swirling makes the scent more intense. You should be able to tell if the wine has been made from grapes, plums or cherries, etc. If you smell vinegar, throw the contents of the bottle away.

:Tasting:

To clean your palate, some people take a sip, and spit it out. I eat a little piece of bread.

Take another sip and swirl it around in your mouth. Begin counting as soon as you do this. You will be able to know the sec, (dry or sweet), by the numbers you reach before you can't taste it any more. The sweet wines will take you up to 10 seconds, and the drier ones from one to two seconds.

Don't swallow the wine, tip your head over, (you don't want the wine to come out of your nose), and suck in some air, (whistling backwards). You will be amazed that you can smell and taste at the same time. There is more taste palates in our nasal passages than in our mouth!

Now comes the best part, because you can drink the rest of the glass of wine.

People have different tastes and what matters in the end is if you like what you taste.

In wine, like in all things, expensive doesn't mean it's better.

:My Final Thoughts:

A glass of red wine a day can help people with heart problems.

Please don't drink and drive.

Thanks for reading my review.
