Off late prescription drugs are being sold over the counter without prescription which are quite harmful and to be taken only under doctor advice.
I had gone to buy an otc drug for body ache and I was pawned off a higher painkiller(Ibuprofen) by the chemist as very effective for such a problem.(Ibuprofen though is an OTC medication in the US of A, it is still a prescribed drug in India).Patients in India preserve the prescriptions of Doctor and dont visit them again if they suffer from similar symptomatic problems but go and buy the medicine directly from the chemist by showing the old prescription(It is totally wrong and could lead to complications if the ailment is not diagnosed properly)
Drugs of unknown companies are being pawned off as the original by the chemists so I suggest the following tips for purchase of drug
1)Check the name of the brand(most of the time it could be similar sounding but not similar in spellings)
2)Check the name of the Company
3)The manufacturing date and expiry date
4)Do not buy any pilfered pack
5)Buy only OTC drugs without prescription
6)ALso check the warnings and contents on the pack before consuming because one could be allergic to certain drugs
7)Do not buy any medicine loose buy only sealed packs
8)In india all scheduled drugs have a red line on the strip to indicate that they are prescription drugs
9)Also look for indications and dosages before consuming it
10)If problem persists please consult your nearest Doctor
Do not switch brands often(could lead to allergic reactions on account of even base materials)
