Unfortunately Times of India is the leading English newspaper of India. the worst Newspaper by any standards. What do you say about a Newspaper whose CEO says its Business and not Journalism and his paper is product he just wants to sell?
If you want news, you will get it here, but only after u have been through all the junk. In fact Times of India is also infamous for putting Eye Popping news ahead of real news that matters to the real people. Because of its marketing techniques that look at journalism as a product to be sold, it also goes in for cheap tricks. Indiatimes.com, has a skimpy dressed model's pictures right at the top of its websites. It’s more a soft porn site + movie buff’s site + a site with loads n loads of advertisements, its damn irritating.
They give more importance to news like Beauty Contest, and Films and Yellow Journalism on their headlines. Here, I belive Rediff.com as a internet news website is the best for Indian readers. Rediff has a perfect unbiased mix of headlines, which is ordered according to the time it happens. Rediff is lightning fast when it comes to updating new news. Rediff has the right news that people should be reading. Times of India converts advertisements into news stories, ''Radio Mirchi has a new play list!'' in no way is news for me. Because its a media giant (Bennet and Colemann) it uses its network to promote other news. It’s more like Times of India is their Loudspeaker than a organisation that works towards giving people the news. Also TOI is very subtle when it comes to issues that matter, it is a State Boot licking newspaper, and does not criticise enough. Its coverage too is bad. You find better local news in midday.com and Rediff than in the local city sub sites of TOI. TOI stayed as my IE homepage for a while, but it got on my nerves when once I found all the top 8 headlines to be results of all the Beauty Contests of the world, miss earth, miss India Canada, miss this, miss that. Was it a day where nothing else happened? Damn it. Rediff.com is now my homepage, its been the longest, it stayed my homepage for 2 years after I switched to TOI for a short while, and now its back since the last 6 months.
P.S. U should even stop buying TOI newspaper, newspaper wise, Indian Express is better.
