I had registered on Timesjobs in the earlier years of my career. However, with passage of time, my preference for seeking jobs had shifted to other specialized portals and to my own network of course. Now, after 6-7 years, I wanted to opt out of the mail subscriptions which are nothing more than SPAM to me. However, in the mailer with the subject line, "Name - 10 jobs waiting for you", there is no link which allows the subscriber to unsubscribe from the mailers. A basic unsubscription route is offered even by the most unsophisticated marketing companies, but not by TimesJobs. Even SPAM blocking has not helped.
I tried to deactivate the subscriptions after logging onto the portal. Even this was an effort as I had to dig out the password which I had long forgotten. But to my horror, on loggin onto the portal, I was not allowed to do anything BEFORE updating my resume. I wanted to deactivate/delete my profile, but the website does not offer any such facility. I logged out and wrote to the customer service to deactivate my account. It is quite laughable as to since then, how the portal has been trying to cling on to me as a job seeker and sitting on requests for more than 8 weeks now, paying no heed to account deletion.
To sum it up, a webportal should acknowledge when it has lost the mindshare of a user and should allow the user a a graceful exit. These guys seem to have the motto, "Once you are in, we won't let you go". It is a shame on the portal and the times group also. NOT RECOMMENDED for people at any stage of their careers.
