Thirteen reasons why is a young adult novel written by Jay Asher, and it was published in 2007. It is an international best seller which is also published in 31 languages which is really impressive and I can see why because this is a very universal story.
The story has two main characters there is a boy named Clay Jensen and a girl named Hannah Baker. The thing about the
Hannah Baker is that she is actually dead during the entire book. Hannah Baker has committed suicide two weeks before the story actually begins and we learned this because we follow Clay the entire time.
And the reason we even know about Hannah is because Clay gets these tapes in the mail from the unknown sender. He opens them up and has to find a player for tapes because not many people doesn't listen to tapes anymore, nut when he finds a player he puts the tapes in and realizes its Hannah Baker talking to him.
In the beginning you don’t really understand the ties between Clay and Hannah you figure that out as the story goes on because these tapes there is thirteen sides and each side have a different reason why Hannah Baker has committed a suicide.
The plot is a fantastic idea, the chapter of the different tape side, he is listening to and what is actually happening around him and what Hannah is saying during those little sessions of tapes he is listening to. There is also a map that has different areas marked on it about which Hannah is talking about in those tapes. So, throughout the novel he is following those different locations and as Hannah talks about them on the tape and as we get Clay’s reaction in time as Hannah is telling her story.
The novel is gripping at times, but it is not executed really well and it didn't appeal to me as much as I thought it is going to.
