I needed to buy a simple mobile phone, and went to this website, which promised easy transactions and hassle free deliveries.
After selection, and making the payment, I got an electronic receipt as well as a due date of delivery of 3 days after the payment. On the date of delivery, I got a phone call from some local mobile phone store, asking me to re-confirm my order.
When that was done, they then asked me for my credit card number and CVV, which I refused. I was then told that delivery could not/would not be made, and that I would have to file for cancellation, as per their policy, and lose some amount towards cancellation charges.
Over the next few days, I got some more phone calls, but by now I was simply not interested. And so I filed for a charge-back with the credit card company, and also lodged a complaint about this with the issuing bank, as asking for card number and CVV on telephone is illegal.
The Mobile Store claims that they do this (ask for card number and CVV) for preventing fraud. It is my opinion that this sort of "policy" or "procedure" by them only increases fraud. I would suggest consumers refrain from using the online product from this store till they align their processes in keeping with credit card usage. In addition, there is no escalation matrix on their website, nor is there any room for discussion, except with call-center personnel.
