Q1. Distinguish between Theater/Drama and Movies.

Ans: “OM” (“Darna Mana Hai” style)

Alias used

  1. Movies = Philum

  2. Theater/Drama = Natak

(o: PERSONAL Experience :o)

- PhilumNo, no one said ‘Lights, Camera, Aaaction’ but still the camera was rolling and I was very conscious, guess everyone has experienced this some time or the other. What? No!! Ever been to a marriage? How do you feel when the camera is on you just when you are about to take a big bite of a chapatti and your plate is full? As if to count the number of chapattis you are having and calculate the bill or to record the action of how you eat. Lolz!! No but this time it was not someone’s marriage it was my marriage day... So slowly I got used to that camera and the consciousness evaporated…;o)

- NatakA few months back I joined a new job with an entirely new job profile, more like a management kind of job, earlier there used to be some manager to handle me, oops!! I mean my work ;o) now I have to manage a group of people :o)). Addressing a group of people on project, quality and time management wasn’t an easy job. The only input from my boss was “keep the session humorous (with some personal experiences) and interactive (else everyone will go to sleep lol!!)”, I replied in my thoughts, “Easier said than done” (Believing ‘Boss is Always Right’ didn’t speak it loud). Phew!! It was tough, some 20 people staring at you and you have to talk something sensible to make them believe and understand what I myself know is good just for reading and giving funda’s and also take care that they don’t go to sleep (as if I am singing a lalabai). I couldn’t find my own sweet voice for the first two sentences and blurted out some scrap. ;o) later the session went on well!! Though no one clapped and applauded but it is my feeling. ;o)

(o: IMPERSONAL Experience :o)

~ Comfort level ~

- PhilumJust had to be the way you are and forget about the camera as soon as possible. Difficult in the beginning, but as the camera just keeps rolling retake after retake you get comfortable. ;o)

- NatakYou are the star, people are watching you, so just begin keeping in mind ‘If the beginning is good, half the work is done’. You feel comfortable as you complete your dialogue one by one. (By the end of the play you are extremely comfortable as either people are applauding or throwing chappals… lolz!!)

~ Preparation Time ~

- Philum 15 minutes. So you have to understand everything within those 15 minutes i.e. learn the dialogues (which probably is a 5 minutes scene in the movie), learn about the character, learn about the type of scene (weather it is emotional, fight or funny, else you will be doing comedy in a funny scene lolz!!). But then you can take as many chances as you want :o) this much just for a 5 minutes scene, Phew!!

- NatakA few days before giving the performance. So you get ample time to understand the dialogues, your character, type of scene but here it’s the couple of hour you have to perform, that too without any retakes :o(

~ Solving the Mistakes ~

- PhilumLot of chances, till the director gets tired making the actor perform, later he might give up saying ‘let it be, he/she wont be able to do this, I will do I myself on my PC at home. Lolz!! ;o))

- NatakNot that they don’t do mistakes or don’t get chance to solve their problem…but the only way to solve the mistake is be creative, if something goes wrong make it correct there and then as if it was the part of the play. :o)

~ Type of Audience ~

- PhilumVast range of audience, can be a taxi driver, a businessmen, a hawker or an industrialist.

- NatakCan be either the people you know (when performing for your college, society or office) else only middle or upper class people who can afford to pay a high price.

~ End Result ~

- PhilumEdited to the best of everything, (with all the bad or wrong shots cut) with great special effects and outdoor shoots.

- NatakA good live performance of actors performing as close as 100 meters from you.

(o: P.S:Please check the question paper and give marks in the comments ;o)
