It is one of the most beautiful love stories that I've seen till date! Yes, I'm talking about Village which was supposed to be more of a horror/suspense/thriller genre movie. When I saw the movie, I had similar expectations but it turned out to be a completely different ball game.
Though it has its share of suspense and some very thrilling moments, for me it still remains a love story. But at the end of the day I was thoroughly satisfied. Shyamalan tells you a story of a village; quite an unusual village! For some reasons, they prefer being left alone and the rest of the world is not even aware of their existence. The elders of the village have some secret which they have kept in their respective boxes.
They are surrounded by a jungle and they don't venture in the jungle as they are afraid of some "evil". Nobody is interested to know about the outside world as "wicked" people stay there. But due to lack of advanced medical facilities, they face some untimely deaths and Joaquin Phoenix realizes the importance of better medicines from the outside world.
The story begins with a funeral and later Phoenix seeking permission from the seniors of the village to pass through the woods to get medicines from the nearest city.He tries to convince them that the "evil" will let him pass through as his intentions are noble. What happens next is something I want you to find it out if the plot excites you.Trust me, there are enough chilling moments in the moments to keep you glued and its a great mixture of love, trust, belief and jealousy.
The cast has played their part to perfection, specially Bryce Dallas Howard for playing the love interest of Phoenix and is the most important character of the movie. The background score of the movie is simply breathtaking; make sure you have nice speakers to create an atmosphere.
The narration is lucid and slowly the mystery is revealed in typical Shymalan style. He has tried to convey a message and for me..he succeeded. At the end you will either find it baseless, silly (that is what the critics said) or the overall affect of the movie will make you feel refreshingly different. I liked the feeling and I'm sure some of you will like it too..
