A must see !why? Read on !. Review on The Village Movie

To wish to satiate human desire completely is like wanting for Holy Grail and Manoj K. S, it seems has learnt his lesson well. Had he succumbed to the wishes of lesser mortals , products of today?s art-deprived , hugely commercialized world , we would have witnessed , not a master piece like ?The Village? but a ?one of those good movies? ?Spielbergian (Permit me to coin a new word).I am tempted to compare Spielberg with Manoj because Steven is the other stalwart with a distinct style , looming large over today?s cinema.

Talking about ?The Village?-I liked this movie. A lot. Movie goers seem to be disgruntled with an improbable plot. Agreed! But, then that?s Manoj for you. That?s his style. Remember, ?the Sixth sense?, ?Unbreakable? and ?The signs?. The lesson is ?if you are more interested in the carvings on the dinner table than the delicacies served to you, you choose to remain hungry at your own peril.

?The Village ? is a story of, a village (of course!) forcefully secluded from the rest of the world by some strange and weird creatures that live in the woods surrounding the village. A guy with a noble soul realizes that its high time to catch the bull by its horn and decides to cross the woods and go to the city so that he can bring medicines and all those paraphernalia of today?s world .A romance is also blooming and before he could set on for his journey, as the lady luck would have it, he is deeply wounded (how? check the movie) and now its his blind lover who decides to face the music by going in the woods. What happens next? Watch the movie!

Now that?s an extremely insensitive, insipid and boring way to write about a plot that had promised so much .Its exactly the way many of us have watched the movie. Come on guys. There was so much in the movie?

It?s a wonderful romantic movie .The characterization of Ivy is simply superb, different and innovative. I wish, I could marry her..ha ha ha !!

Then , the all pervasive innocence that was shown in the village was thought provoking .It forced me to think about today?s world?s lies and deceits . There is a scene in the movie where Ivy meets the first city guy , aghast as he should be, he asks (quote)..

Are you tricking me?

Ivy ? I don?t understand (unquote).

The very word ?trick? is unknown to her. Imagine!

Then there is a scene when Ivy?s sister proposes to Lucius , Ivy?s man .Its so innocent , honest and touchy that one is wishing to be in her world.

I may keep on blabbering like this, quoting from the scenes of movie and there won?t be any stopping .The purpose of art is to ?provoke?. Provocation for one?s sensibilities! When one is forced to stop and think and relish the beauty around him? the purpose of art is achieved.

And ?The Village? has done this !
