This is the question you find after watching this brilliant movie
Unlike the other movies where the characters are hero, here the thought written in the form of script and direction is the Hero.
I would not be writing about a movie which had been released about 1 or more years ago, usually. But The Village is not just the other movie. It carries a strong message and forces us for retrospection.
I rate it among one of the best meaningful movies ever made, regardless of any publicity, and MN Shyamalan's best work so far.
Story in short:
As told, here the hero is the script itself. There is a village in USA. The unusual thing about this village is that it's totally cut off from rest of the world and all civilizations through the surroundings of very deep, huge forest, amid which this village rests.
The people of this village do not know if anything like a town exist. They do cultivation, have small cottage industries, etc everything by themselves, in this small world of theirs. They always dine together. It is just like one huge family, concerned about each other and live together happily. The children spend time together playing and narrating stories.
Here, all of them know one common rule of this village.....Never Attempt To Go Towards The Woods. The Woods have some ghostly creatures and no body returns back. And only those with 100 percent pure of heart, can enter. But before going they would have to tell the elders and jury of the village.
But nobody tried to go accross, except one, of the current generation, a boy, as he needed some medicine to help an ailing patient. He was discouraged and was asked to prove his purity of heart. He was allowed to go, but in the middle of the Jungle he got scared and returned back. His lover, the daughter of the head of the village took the job, and got the permission. She was blind!
She went to the town crossing the woods, while struggling for her own life, stunning the outside world by her honesty, purity and innocence, and returned back with a truth which only she and another person of her generation knew, but, again suppressed like their antecedents.
The Truth Was that There Was No Creature In The Jungle. A Boy From the Village was deputed to create Harmless Menace, so that nobody goes to The Town, and Nobody enters From The Town!
The grands generations were not the pure villagers but in fact very educated big shots of their own fields like Professor of Medicine from John Hopkins, MIT, Social Scientists, Doctors, Novelists. All of them had faced some common problem in the City, like Rape, Murder, False allegations, frustration etc.
One day they all unite and escape from Town to the middle of the Jungle, seeking the true meaning and essense of life and save themselves from inhuman nature and declining society of Towns, where lives are not valued and respected! They Created False Stories to Breed A Pure Generation.
Technical Aspects Simply superb. The winter season is captured superbly as well as the beauty of the jungle. The Movie has been made by total heart and nowhere you can find Shyamlan getting loose. Even the trump blow excution was with utmost perfection. The love sceens( not love making sceens) were simply touching and made me feel again that it's all in mind and heart....skin melts!
Performances I would say simply superb again! Even small kids played naturally. When the story line is so much forceful one is bound to perform with zeal.
My Opinion
I must say that this movie is a must watch. Why are we in town....we came here for job, study, and, are lost in the mad race, forgetting the meaning of life and corrupting ourselves. We can't dine with even our family, forget society. We fight with our problem alone and are swept away with it. we stay panicked and scared always!
Quick relief, synthetic enjoyments at amusement parks or video games....we are slowly loosing the qualities of true ''HUMAN''! At least I was compelled to think.
Those who could not understand The Sixth Sense, should not go for this movie as this movie goes beyond it, and expects a bit more from the viewer.(I have to say so, because after watching 6th sense people were asking me about the story of the movie outside the hall!)
The Village is Perhaps A Solution Shown By The Director, To All Those Who Are Still Able to Ponder, Before Going To Sleep,....that ,in A Big City,... is life granted to us only to be lapsed like this? selfishly, full of fright?
