The bad odour. Review on The Vijay Park, Chennai

We recently attended a friend's wedding at The Vijay Park hotel. They have also booked us a room in the hotel for a night stay. We went along with family(with two kids). While we entered the second floor, we could not bare the smoke smell, and the liquor smell too. "Maybe, it was a heavy party in some of the other room", we guessed wrong and then moved on. The helper took us to the booked room and once we entered the room, it was even worse. The smell was such a foul smell, pathetic smoke and liquor combination. I did not want my kids to smell them even for a minute. The room was well maintained. Clean, neat, bathrooms were also neat with bath tub, but alas! The sickest smell did not let us stay there.

We also went to the reception, told the issue and asked for a non smoking room. They told there is no such concept of "non smoking room", and this is how it is. They tried to check for a room in different floor but no luck. I suppose, even if we had got a room in different floor, the poor design of congested rooms would have made it even worse.

We had to immediately go to a nearby hotel and checked the rooms and stayed there. The Rs 2500 booked in Vijay Park became zero, null and void due to this experience.

So, we would definitely not recommend anyone to stay in Vijay Park, except for a bachelor booze party. The hall was also not a very spacious big one for a wedding or reception. That would do just ok for a birthday party, not even for a betrothal ceremony. Too small and closed one. The rest rooms are just outside the hall and once the guests start using, the smell again is the problem. Imagine experiencing a urinal smell before entering a wedding reception. That is the last thing that anyone would expect.

Incase the hotel management is reading this review, it is high time to do something about this bad smell that makes everything worse about the hotel. Once this issue is sorted, then I am sure the hotel will be one top one. I re iterate, the hotel cleanliness, staffs, comfort inside the room - everything is good. Maybe a floor for smoking class and a different floor for non smoking class will help for sometime. Hope you take this positive and act upon!
