I have been reading Times Of India since my teenage years, i-e, since the early 1990’s till date.
Being the largest selling English Daily in India, there is always a special advantage in reading this newspaper. You get to read or view more number of and better and important advertisements such as regarding any important events in the city like any art exibitions, property exibitions, shows, concerts, seminars, job fairs, education fairs etc. Many of these are generally not present in most other newspapers of any language.
Also it has an excellent rich section of Classified Ads – whether is real estate, buying/selling anything, rentals / PGs, brokers, any other small businesses, any kind of services, and so on. This is always handy to have.
One of the most striking and useful feature is the “Matrimonial Section” – probabaly the best in the whole country among all newspapers of any language! There are lots of genuine, classy bride/groom profiles mentioning all the relevant details, and grouped according to Religion/Caste/Community/Profession etc. This is remarkable. And inspite of stiff competition from many well-branded online matrimonial websites, TOI’s matrimonial columns are still doing exceedingly well, and haven’t been even slightly affected at all in the last few decades! This is a fantastic victory and accomplishment! Who says internet is killing paper/print media?
Also, TOI has excellent sections boasting of some high quality content in sections like “Editorials”, “Letters to the Editor”, sports, politics, various socio-economics articles etc. Overall TOI has very balanced, modern, cosmopolitan views, which resonates well with my personal philosophy towards life. TOI has been known to take praise-worthy initiatives and stands on various issues and problems at regional, national as well as international level. It’s consistency of excellent track record has no par. It has stood the test of time for more over 100 years.
I have also heard from my circles that TOI is a good place to work at, and takes very good care of its staff. I wish I get a chance to write for this esteemed and prestigious media house.
