Times of India should be shun. Review on The Times Of India

The first page of the newspaper is the most important part, and they will fill it with some advertisement, which will frustrate you to the core. Then the first page will be some hard covering(glossy material) and the newspaper will not fold properly.

Often the firstpage will be cut into one half and again some ad will glare at you. One day I saw the whole first page smeared with yellow color crying out loud. I dont remember which advertisement it was. But who cares? No one ever thought that this would irritate the reader.

One part of the paper will be full of fashoin, models bla bla and the pictures are obscene, vulgar and semi pornographic. This is the worst part. No one cares as though and no one ever thinks that a cultured Indian family still clings on to the tranditional values which we are proud of and what right does this newspaper has to render serious blows to such values.

I want a simple newspaper which covers unbiased news of the day and I dont mind reading decent advertisements. I also know that if a product is good, then word of mouth is the best form of advertisement to carry forward the sales of that product. And decent advertisements cling on to memory better than front page jumbo size images and bold and caps letter claims. That on the contrary breeds negative impression for the product.

Having said all that I dont deny that the newspaper has good stuffs as well. And I am continuing with it because of  a very good editorial, good columnists like Jug Suraiya . to name a few among the positive aspects.

You might say- why should I focus on the negative and not on the positive only? The newspaper has food for everyone - those with the polluted mind, the decent ones, the one from the fashion and movie domain, the knowledgeable one, the spiritual and you name it. Each person with his own taste should select his own area of interest and remain happy.

But I don't agree with that line of thought. Because media should take responsibility as well, while enjoying the seat of power. Media in the form of newspaper is extrememely powerful in moulding and shaping the mind-set of the new generation, in education them to be decent, honest and responsible human beings. And the nature of mind is to get attracted to negative easily.  The fragile mind of small children shouldnot be fed with vulgar photos, unacceptable write-ups etc. So media should not corrupt and pollute people on this large scale. It should take the responsibility and be decent, unbiased and acceptable.

The first page of the newspaper should be given respect. A victory in a cricket match shouldn't be flashed in the headlines. These are simple guidelines that it should adhere to.
