It Sucks, It really Does. Review on The Times Of India

The Times Of India is a product of Bennett, Coleman & Co. Ltd. It is the most selling newspaper currently in the country, with more than a million copies. Bulk of its sales happening at the Metros. Its funny that people at the metro's like news to be short, precise and should have lot of Gossips, no offense meant. If your are someone living in and around Delhi, where The Times Of India makes most of its sales, you will understand what I meant. But I am stern believer that Newspaper should bring out the headlines from the T.V. news, in a more elaborate manner and be truthful to the news as well as to its readers, letting them decide which side of story they are, not by commenting on the news, giving the notion that the Reporter/Editor have instead of the reader forming a opinion on his own.

The worst possible thing they could have done, have been done at last, the commenting on their own Reports/Editorials/News. Lets us see what it offers us and where it deserts us.

Pros :

Starting with pros is quite easy, since they are very few. Starting with the size of newspaper, they have reduced the size of the newspaper during Oct-Nov 2002. The Times Group says they have set it to the international standard. I thought they meant the Newyork Times. Anyway I like the new size, now its very to read the newspaper while on travel. In the front-page, I, myself like the quotes of great leaders at top left corner. And of course You Said It by Laxman. Result of indiatimes.com Polls and Weather Report is also not bad of bad taste, considering the weather in Delhi. In the rest paper, the high resolution images does give feel good factor. The best page The Times of India can boast about, is its Editorial Page, I do believe it is one of the best editorials you will find among it contemporaries. The 'A Thought For Today' and 'The Sacred Space' is one I always look forward to. 'The Speaking Tree' by C.D. Verma is really high class, considering the rest of the paper. Now we come straight to the last page, The Sports Page. Cricket being the most passionate sports among all Indians, The Times Group, does spend a lot on Cricket coverage. They have very high quality reporters in Ahmed Abbas Rizvi and the insights provided by Ayaz Memon are quite incredible. Not to forget the bold speaking Stanislaus D'Souza. Inderneel Das covers rest of the sports happening around the country, he is good. They also have the best of cricket writers among, ESPN-Star Commentators. Delhi Times, the daily magazine it provides have a very good Page No. 2. It has cartoons, TV timings and Internet Humor. It also provide us with daily horoscope, a lot of us may find it very useful. And the contests are what that does keep the interests alive. There special weekly editions like that of Ascent, Financial times and Educational times are very good for the people concerned. Didn't I make this paper look good.

Cons:

Now of a paper has so many pros, what are the cons? Believe me, there a lot of those. Starting at Front-page itself, the absolute value of PI till the Hundredth decimal, how to tie shoe laces and today's headlines, breakup between Abishek and Karishma, puts the paper in real bad taste. These are the news you look for in magazine(Delhi Times) not on the front-page of a national daily. Even if you read other front-page news (today's 16th Jan 2003), it is absolute junk. The funniest part is TNN has somehow glorified the exorbitant expenditure on Mayawati's B'Day, the forgot that the money for such a bash came from State's fund. Its quite funny but when you read TOI your head is always towards the right side page (1,3,5,7....) because the pages on left hand side(2,4,6..) doesn't have any news/articles, instead they carry Classifieds/Advertisement/Tenders. To correct myself even among all these pages you just have to look at the topmost part of right side, as the rest of even our news page is covered with Ads. Too much of Ads. Still worse is there international page, if someone reads those articles, it seems there is no problems across the globe, and you will increase your IQ about the life, romance and death anniversary of Hollywood stars, that's the main international page. Business Page, have more technology related news than the actual Business/Economic news. Sports page, apart from few cricket news, you can easily look over the rest of the sport news. Delhi times is so bad but for 2nd page that its not even worth writing about. And I'm one of those believes that TOI & TNN has some grievances with the BJP and does oblige Congress and Left Parties a lot, that is the worst they could do to the country.

There job is to provide True and Elaborate News to the people, and let the people decide their likes and dislikes.

I, myself was a readers of TOI a long time ago, but TOI has changed, as has our Daily Newspaper. Readers of TOI, there is a lot happening around the world you got to know about it and most significant you should have an opinion of your.
