Based on a true life story, this is Steven Speilberg’s most recent gem.
Tom Hanks plays Viktor Navorski, a citizen of Krakozhia. When he arrives in America, he finds out to his horror that his country is in the midst of a civil war. Due to this he is declared persona non grata. He cannot go back home because technically his country does not exist and he cannot leave the airport as due to his country’s political situation, his passport does not exist.
It is an interesting fact that almost the entire movie is set inside JFK airport and that it is not the actual airport that was used. A very expensive set was created and the entire movie is a set! But if Speilberg could recreate the Titanic – what’s an airport huh?
It is hear-warming to se how this “lost” guy tries to make the best of a bad situation. It’s endearing to see how he manages to make friends and get by even though he barely speaks the language. You’ll find yourself smiling and laughing at his ingenious ways of just trying to survive. He also finds a love interest played by Zeta Jones.
I have watched almost all of Tom Hanks’ movies. I think he’s a brilliant actor. I thought he was amazing in Forest Gump and that he could not get better. He proved me wrong in Cast Away…and in terminal I think he’s just outdone himself. he's one actor who re-invents himself and makes movies such a joy to watch.
Watch this movie. It will make you smile, cry and believe in all things true.
