The Silkworm is the second book in the Cormoran Strike series by JK Rowling, written under a Pen name Robert Galbraith. The book does no harm to her reputation and in fact might have even managed to enhance it.First things first, it is a brilliantly thought out plot.It is engaging, energetic, and different from many earlier books in the "murder mystery" genre.
Next up, the characters. Each character is drawn out exceptionally well.It is as good as watching a movie, albeit in your own head. The relation between Strike and his secretary cum assistant-Robin Ellacott is also beautifully crafted. Each character is a person whom we can relate to.the different kinds of people we see everyday.
Set in London, the plot revolves around the murder of an attention seeking author-Owen Quine. As Strike goes around London trying to solve the puzzling murder, the plot reveals itself layer by layer. And each layer brings up a few surprises and twists.
A page turner, it will keep you engrossed in the murder of Owen Quine and its aftermath.
But somewhere towards the middle, it gets a tad bit monotonous, but catches pace quickly thereafter. Also, It would be easier if you are familiar with British euphemisms and general slang. However even if you are new to British English, it will not change the way you will enjoy the book.
For crime and mystery lovers-A dream book
For literary buffs-A good one time read.
