Story:

The school for good and evil is the first book in a middle-grade fantasy trilogy which is called the school for good and evil series written by Soman Chainani. And the first book is published in the year 2013 and the book is around 490 pages long.

This book follows a two main characters named Sophie and Agatha, they both live in this village and their world is surrounded from all sides by the woods.

Every couple of years a person that comes to a village called the school master and he kidnaps two people from the village. And the reason he takes these two people so that they can join the school for good and evil. This school is essentially a place where people go to learn to either become the villains in the fairy tales or the heroes of the fairy tales. So essentially he takes two people so that one can go to school  for evil and learn to become a villain and other person can go to the school for good to eventually become a hero.

In the beginning of the book we find out that Agatha doesn't want to go to the school for good and evil and want to stay in her small village. She is also the daughter of the witch so she is more inclined towards the grim side of things.

Sophie is more like a princess and she wants to go the school for good and evil to have an adventure and to have a happily ever after. These two girls end up getting kidnapped by the schoolmaster, but here is a twist Sophie ends up going to the school for evil and Agatha goes to the school for good and the story unfolds from there.

I really enjoyed this novel, but I certainly do have some unanswered questions about this book and I am looking forward to read the rest of the two book in this trilogy and might be they can answer the questions I have.

I really enjoyed the world building of this novel, which is very fantastical and magical and you do feel like you are inside a fairytale, but at the same time lot of the things are not really explained to you fully and at times it can get slightly confusing.

The story tends to favour Sophie a little bit, even when  the story is about Agatha and Sophie and about their friendship. And the characters are a little bit caricature like which is normal for the fairytale kind of story, but somewhere I was expecting a little depth to the characters.

This is a typical kids going to magic school kind of plot line. So if you are interested in reading fantasy novels related to this field I will recommend you to give it a try, without expecting a lot from it.
