Story:

My first recollection of possessing Norman Vincent Peale’s book THE POWER OF POSITIVE THINKING was in the early part of our marriage. The title of the book is what struck me first as I thought this was a message I would like to know more about. It was then I discovered that Norman Vincent Peale was a minister of a Dutch Reform Church in New York City. Now this really brought this book closer to home for me as I was born and raised in the Dutch Reform Church in Nebraska.

All of these things made be treasure this book and follow the life of Norman Vincent Peale. This book was a lifesaver for me; beings that my husband finished his College Education after he returned from World War II, I felt uneducated and my self-esteem seemed to drift downward. I was busy enough with our children and helping him with his education and his first teaching job. All our friends at that time were educated and that made me feel even worse.

When reading this book THE POWER OF POSITIVE THINKING it set me on a different path. I began to teach myself by reading books from the library and books we could afford to purchase. I knew that if I developed these positive thought and continued to grow in my own educated way in my Art Talents and in the world around me I would become more self-assured. Of course this did not come about automatically, it was a slow process, as when you have young children you have to make that time for yourself. This special time I used in my Art Work and studying about Art. All this helped me grow because I believed in myself and in the talents I had to give.

I continued to re-read Norman Vincent Peal’s books as he always said in all his books that you must draw on your POSITIVE POWER. I continue to use this as my slogan and educating myself has never stopped. My Art work has taken me from Oil Paintings, to Fiber Art, to Clay Sculpturing, to Photography/developing, to Writing and the Computer. I have participated in Art Shows up and down the mid-west, which helped me in a business sense. Meeting other artist and exchanging art made it an enriching project. Now in my more golden years I am into writing after taking a Correspondence Course in writing Articles and Books. The Internet is my blank page now to write about all things and sharing experiences I am now writing on four different web sites and finding friendly people all over the world.

I have another Norman Vincent Peale book that has helped me called YOU CAN IF YOU THINK YOU CAN, it is another older book published in 1974 but still filled with good advice. I shared some of these bits of wisdom with my children and grandchildren. My son when he was in 3rd grade became despondent and school was a bore. We worked long and hard on the POSITIVE THINKING and more books like YOU CAN IF YOU THINK YOU CAN. He went on to become a successful Computer Engineer for Compaq Corp. in Houston, Texas.

Now a grandson is having some trouble after he graduated from high school as to what to do with his life. I write to him often and send him suggestions of how to create in oneself that POWER OF POSITIVE THINKING. I also love proverbs, sayings and Aesop Fables and will sometime send him a series of these things to think about. What helped me for all these years I hope to share with many that may find a benefit in POSITIVE THINKING. Norman Vincent Peal has left a timeless message that will help people of all walks of life in their daily life. He provides inspiration in a time when you need it most, so you can progress to a fuller and more satisfying life. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF BRING INTO YOUR LIFE THE POWER OF POSITIVE THOUGHTS!!
