The Opening music ... The magic of Pink Panther ... I don't know about others but I grew up watching Pink Panther .. and did I love it .. boy I did .. Peter Sellers... He was good ... and did the role of Jacques Clousseau with utmost sincerity as if it were made for him ...
Nostalgia thrown out .. lets return to the main topic ... This Pink Panther ... it has recognizable names in it in the form of steve martin, Kevin Kline, Jean Reno, Emily Mortimer ... and the gorgeous Beyonce. So the utterly simple story line .. Inspector Dreyfuss (Kevin Kline) has been nominated for the Medal of Honour for 7 times .. and has the biggest chance to get one for himself ... with the murder of french football team coach .. Yvonne ... He recruits and promotes to Inspector Jacques Clousseau for the one purpose that he catches the media glare and entertains them with his stupidity while he quietly goes about with his work.
The story will be quite obvious from now on. But the story is not the reason to watch this movie. It is the comedy sequences .. numerous .. and some really predictable .. but some are very well placed and completely catch you off guard .. while others though still predictable would make you pause the movie and catch a breath.. you would be laughing so heartily it would bring tears to your eyes.
The addition
In context to the old Pink Panther ... this one has introduced some subtle changes..
- He has a new side kick ... detective 2nd class Ponton... their introduction is really funny...
Clousseau '' What police experience do you have?''
Ponton ''My family has been in police in paris for Nine generations.''
Clousseau ''and before that?''
Ponton ''All over france, we did police work for 200 years. ''
Clousseau ''and before that?''
Ponton '' We were immigrants from various parts of europe all involved in police business.''
Clousseau ''and before that?''
Ponton '' Farmers''
Clousseau ''So detective wants to learn police work from the great inspector Clousseau?''
His new secretary Nicole ... the cute Emily Mortimer.
For a change, Clousseau is shown to be succesful with women.. and it was a welcome change .. I dont know if I could have digested more laughs.
CLOUSSEAU
Pronounced like clue- so-o for those not familiar with it. He is a simple, naive person. He is very honest and follows the rule of book. He is addicted to or may be has compulsion to do stupid things. You would love this character and at parts sympathize with him.
The comic sequences
They are numerous as I said... and I am not going to describe them .. as I feel that would not be a justice. The scenes are mostly visually influenced and evoke laughter due to the circumstances built up to that time.
Verdict
Definitely worth a watch unless you are allergic to laughter.
