It was the controversy that surrounds this movie ''The Passion of Christ'' is what sparked my interest in watching Mel Gibson's interpretation of the crucifixion of Christ. It wasn't just the controversy that sparked my interest. After watching the many, many responses from moviegoers on television I said ''WoW! I have to see this movie. While watching the news I saw people leaving the theater crying, rejoicing along with much interesting dialog from religious clergy.

I saw this movie tonight, and after watching it I truly felt the emotion, and agony that surrounds this movie and its main character Jesus Christ portrayed by James Caviezel (The Final Cut). To be perfectly honest, I wasn't too concerned about the controversy that surrounded this film as it related to the Jews and their responsibility for the death of Christ. I wasn’t concerned about any implications of Anti-Semitism; I found the graphic depiction of the crucifixion of Christ to be a most important element in the film. You must see this movie it’s a tearjerker, and very thought provoking. The language in this movie is Hebrew with written English interpretation at the bottom of the screen.

''The Passion of Christ'' is written by and directed by Mel Gibson Benedict Fitzgerld also wrote ''The Passion of Christ.'' This motion picture was released on February 25th 2004 the running time for this movie is 2 hours.

The story begins with Jesus in the garden of Gethsemany and the devil's attempt to tempt him. Then we see Peter and the betrayal of Jesus by Judas. Later Jesus is brought to Pilate and accused of treason and blasphemy. He has proclaimed himself King and the Messiah. It is than that we would see the agonizing torture and brutality of Christ by his enemies and the law that would prosecute him and send him to his death. There are very interesting transitions that coincides with the death of Christ. Christ is at the last super and gives his warning to those who eat with him of his death to come, his betrayal, and his fore telling of Peter denying him three times. We also see the early days of Christ from his childhood and his days as a Carpenter. The appearance of his mother Mary portrayed by Maria Morgenstern (Love is a Survivor) is also heart touching and shows biblical accuracy.

The graphic beatings and the bloody torn scars of Christ's body along with his graphic emotions of suffering, and pain is what brings this movie to its highest point of intensity. The beating and torture goes on until Christ is finally nailed to a cross, but there's more torment after Christ is nailed to the cross we would see the cross heartlessly thrown to the ground as Christ hangs on it enduring more pain and suffering. As this movie draws to its close we see the thief who asks Christ to remember him in his kingdom, and the doubting criminal who dies in condemnation. The death of Jesus Christ becomes a reality to those who crucify him after an occurrence of turbulence shatters the ground and the temple of Pilate is destroyed. The ending of the movie is what gave me moments of relief as I saw a triumphed Christ after his death.

Final thoughts on the Passion of Christ

''The Passion of Christ'' is an outstanding movie. While I wasn't too impressed with the acting in this movie by most of the cast, James Caviezel does an excellent job with acting in his lead role as Jesus Christ he evokes emotion. As for the cinematography, the setting was interesting, but at times unappealing as everything looked dull, and dim. Director Mel Gibson's message and objective with this film is very clear, strong, and brilliantly done as he illustrates the gruesome and graphic persecution, crucifixion and death of Christ. After watching the bloodshed and torture of Jesus Christ in this cinematic presentation, I thought did it really happen this way or was it worse? After watching the movie’s climax I thought will there be a sequel to ''The Passion of Christ?'' I hope so. Overall, ''The Passion of Christ'' is a must see movie. It’s excellent.
