I loved this movie when I watched it at a mates house and just had to buy a copy for myself……ok, I’ll tell the truth now…..I loved Cameron Diaz in The Mask and just had to buy a copy for myself purely because she was in it, the film is good too, which is just an added bonus! I was about 15 at the time, so please forgive me!

So, the mask, how do you write a review on such a crazy film! Well I’ll do me best, although I haven’t watched it in a while, so please forgive me if I miss bits out!

The film is basically about Stanley Ibkiss (Jim Carrey) who works in a bank, lives with his dog in his small flat and is generally pretty bored with life and pretty lonely! That is until Tina Carlyle (Cameron Diaz) walks into the bank, legs up to her armpits, nice dress showing off her breasts and long blonde hair. She changes his life forever, but not in the sense that you might think!

Tina is working on behalf of her gangster boyfriend. The only reason she’s at the bank is to gain photographs of the safe so that her boyfriend can later break into it. Stanley thinks she wants to open an account and is only to happy to help her!

Walking home from work one evening, Stanley comes across something in the river, he goes to investigate and finds out that it is some sort of medieval mask. He takes it home and just sticks it down on the table, but later on can’t resist the temptation of trying it on! He tries it on and all kinds of stuff starts to happen. It looks as if it’s sticking to his face, he can’t get it off, he’s making all kinds of sounds and then he turns round to face us, his face all green, totally changed and with a changed personality to boot!

This ‘medieval’ mask had turned Stanley into what we can only call ‘The Mask’. It has changed him from the lonely, reserved, easy going Stanley that we know into an outrageous character where nothing stops him and the mask enables him to do what he has always wanted to do, but never had the courage to do so! So, what does he do? He robs the bank! The bank however is on CCTV and linked up to the gangsters office who sees the mask nicking all the money and he wants to get ‘his’ money back! This is where the fun begins.

The film from here transforms itself into a fast paced, funny, crazy and highly entertaining watch. Jim Carrey is excellent as always as the Mask and as Stanley Ibkiss. Watch out for the dog aswell, he’s one of the best characters in the film! The film is entertaining for the whole family, what’s more, everyone will get the humour and enjoy it as much over all generations.

The special effects are good, especially Jim Carrey in his mask, wait until you see the dog in the mask, nearly made me wet myself! Would I recommend it, definitely! It’s worthy of a place in your collection and should not be missed if you like comedy films. You could probably get it at about £5 now as it was released in 1994 so it is coming up to 8 years old now (doesn’t time fly!). Go buy it, you won’t regret it.

Oh, and for the lad’s who like Cameron Diaz. This is probably the best film you will catch her in, she either put a little bit of weight on for the film or lost a bit after, but she looks stunning compared to what she does now! Even if you were like me and bought the video purely because she was in it, im sure you still enjoyed it!
