The Legend of Bhagat Singh

Truly a historical movie beautifully portrayed. This movie appeals to your heart and brings back vivid memories of the English atrocities on Indian People. It makes you want to become one with Bhagat Singh and shout Down with Imperialism, Long live the Revolution,

The movie grips you in its fold right from the beginning when you watch the Englishmen coldheartedly burn the bodies of Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru on the fateful day of 23rd March 1931.

Bhagat Singh's childhood has been very sensitively portrayed. His horror and dismay at the Jallianwala Baug Incident, Failure of Gandhiji's Non Cooperation Movement in 1919, and his utter disillusionment with Gandhiji are worth watching. The bal Bhagat dreams of nothing else but Complete Swaraj

Though he respected Gandhiji's value systems, he eventually adopted bloodshed to fight for freedom because as rightly put by him Englishmen were basically deaf and could only hear the explosion of guns and bombs.

The best part of the movie starts after Bhagat Singh and his friend explode a bomb in the National Assemble to prevent the passing of the Trade and Labor Regulations Bills. In a planned move Bhagat Singh and his fellowmen surrender themselves and force the Englishmen to bring them to trial. During the trial they very intelligent exploit the media and spread their message to millions of Indians that Swaraj was their birthright and the only way to get it was to snatch it by fearlessly fighting the English.

Your heart truly bleeds while watching the 55days long hunger strike. The pain, torture and humiliation suffered feel so real. It makes you salute a human beings finest qualities of patience, perseverance and inner resolute, Bhagat Singh and fellow revolutionaries display these qualities in ample.

Raj Kumar Santoshi has once again proved his directional and editing capabilities, though he has a little aboard on the romance part. The actors have skillfully fitted their role and Sushant Singh as Sukhdev is completely mesmerizing. Ajay Devgan has excelled himself both as a fiery activist and a mature martyr though at times you realize that he doesn't resemble Bhagat Singh.

The sets and costumes have been meticulously and aptly designed keeping in mind the period to which they belong to. Tremendous amount of research has been done on the story and the active involvement of Kultar Singh younger brother of Bhagat Singh in writing the story has given the movie its true essence.

Music by A R Rehman adds a magical touch and the songs Sarfaroshi ki Tamana, Desh Mere Desh and the bubbly Pagdi Sambhal Jatta linger on your mind for a long time.

The only negative of this movie is that Gandhiji has been depicted in a very poor light and it raises a lot on questions on his creditability and value systems. This part should have been handled more tactfully and maturely.

Because of this movie we will forever cherish Bhagat Singh and his sacrifices. Inqualab Zindabad
