This one's quite an old flick..but amongst my all time favourites!!!I am sure all who have seen it,would agree with me that the film is indeed amongst the best historical flicks made till date.I just saw in on zee cinema today..finished about 20 minutes back. And I am soooo touched by the movie that right now I wish I was a part of the freedom struggle!!!

The movie is multy-dimentional...on the one hand we are reminded of the feedom struggle that our ancistors faught and on the other hand we are reminded of what we r doing to our nation. The wonderful performances by Ajay Devgan,Santosh Singh,Raj Babbar, farida Jalal,Amrita Rao etc...are so deep and intense that u can just not hold ur tears back. For me it was almost 2 hrs of non stop crying. But NO REGRETS!!!

As the story unfolds we see the set up of pre independence India(1922-32),when India included the territories of Pakistan. The friendly and Non-communal atmosphere of mutual love and admiration. And then we are taken to Voilence and Injustices of the BRITISH RAJ.The agitaion and frustration of the youth..out of which rise the legendry freedom fighters like Bhagat Singh,Raj Guru,Sukhdev,Chandra Shekhar Azad,Batukeshwar Dutt, and the list is endless. Those brave men who did not hold their life more precious than their nation!!!Those undying figures who gave away their present for our future!!!We see how the trio-Bhagat Singh,Sukhdev and RajGuru..happily accept death and hanging at the young age of 23.While their families stand and look at their fate helplessly.

The movie is a perfect blend of all emotions. There are tears and smiles and wit and humor..all in one.We witness how the most serious issue of the country's independece is dealt with by Bhagat Singh and his friends with humor and irony. They use the tools of the Britishers against them!!!They fight their whole battle fom inside the prisons.Till their last breath they keep trying to awake the countrymen to understand their powers and responsibilities and to wake up for their mother land's freedom!!!

Bhagat Singh's sacrifice is highlighted by the way he leaves his family behind and dedicated his entire life(and death)to the struggle for AWAKENING INDIA!!!!Amrita Rao plays Bhagat Singh's fiancee and highlights his sacrifice, when we see that he refuses to accept her,as he believes that freedon and the nation are his calling in life and not family!!!

The SONGS of the film are AWSOME..they touch, inspire and make u cry all at the same time. They make u sing along.A.R.Rehman has done the magic again. The music to the old freedom songs like Mera Rang De Basanti Chola and Sarfaroshi Ki Tamannais made in such a way that it provides a fresh and novel feel to the songs and their spirit is still alive!!!Other sogs likeCheere Walea(the man with a turban) and Pagri Sambhalare again great pieces of work.

What touched me most was the line that comes after the movie is over....HAVE WE BETRAYED THEIR SACRIFICE?

Does anyone of u have an answer to it?I infact felt ashamed at this thought. There were these great men who gave away their life just to give us a better life, with the thought that we will respect their efforts cherish our freedom. But here are we...people who hardly care about the nation. All we do is sit and blame...we go on blaming..either the Government or The Congres or The BJP Or our local MLA or even our Neighbours...My question here is...dont u think who is to be blamed is YOU!!!Forget about fighting a battle or respecting our nation..what we do is go to the other countries and try to imitate them, forgetting the rich cultural values that our nation has given to us.We sit with the people of other countries and call india ''A Big Slum''.We see India as a poverty striken stinking nation..But have u done anything for her??? And if u havnt, then who do u think will???Do u expect the Britishers to come and help ur nation??How can u think of seeking help from USA when u cannot help ur own self???We blame others for corruption....Its our hear which is corrupt.

Next time u throw sumthing on the streets...remind urself..this is ur motherland, she's giving u the food u eat,how can u affor to keep her dirty??Next time when u talk to a foriegner, dont forget to tell them how proud u are to be an Indian, for she is the only nation who respects all religions alike!!!Next time u refer to India..dont say ''Its a Nation''...say ''She's a Nations''...India lives...she lives in my heart...and I am sure in the hearts of many other young boys and girls like me.Love her,Respect her.

Next time u hear the National Anthem..Stand up still and remind urself that u r the citizen of this great nation!!!

All I would like to add at the end of this are a few lines from the movie's song....

Desh Mere Desh Mere...Meri Jaan Hai Tu

Desh Mere Desh Mere...Meri Shaan Hai Tu...

WHEN INDIA CALLS..WE WILL HAVE TO STAND FOR HER!!!!!

JAI HIND

PS-Do not read this as a joke.I mean each word.Lets ask MS to have a different section for something like''messages for India''!!!!High time we get a little patriotic...what say??
