The Last King Of Scotland was directed by Kevin Macdonald. The movie was adapted from a novel written by Giles Foden Jeremy Broch and Peter Morgan.

The Cinematography was directed by Anthony Dod Mantle The original music was scored by Alex Heffes.

Rated R. It will take you one hour and 20 minutes to see it.

The movie was release by Fox Searchlight in October, 2006

The Main Cast:

Forest Whitaker plays Idi Amin

James McAvoy plays Nicholas Garrigan

Kerry Washington plays Kay Amin

Gillian Anderson plays Sarah Merrit

Simon McBurney plays Nigel Stone

David Oyelowo plays Dr. Junju

When Idi Amin Ruled:

I remember seeing a newsreel of him dressed like he was in Scotland and a band wearing kilts were parading before him. No one said why. Now I know!

Plot:

The movie begins in Scotland where Nicholas Garrigan has just become a doctor. His father, (who is never pleased with what he does), is unhappy because he only became a general practitioner and did not specialize in any type of medicine.

The lad is so upset he decides to go to a clinic in a village on Uganda and help them. Idi Amin has just been'elected' has president and the people are happy because they think he is one of them.

One day when Nicolas is in a village and hear Amin speaking. They meet and when someone in Amin's household gets sick he has his car sent for Nicholas.

He does so well Idi Amin insists he become his personal physician. The film has some news reels interspersed with the plot. If you are as old as me you'll know what comes next. If you aren't then I stop here.  I will tell you the movie end before the Israeli's arrived.

The Score:

The music is pretty evenly divided between regional folk songs and a score by Alex Heffes. You can buy the soundtrack from Rounder Records.

What I Think:

Forrest Whitaker looked and talked like Idi Amin. All of the actor's performances were terrific.

The shooting locations were beautiful. There was a lot of suspense in this movie. At times I was on the edge of my seat waiting for the next scene.

The plot was excellent.but then again it was almost a documentary of Amin's life! There were wonderful camera shots and angles.

This film show how Idi used people and how violent he became when he didn't her his way.

Conclusion:

Would I pay to see this film?  Yes.

Forrest Whitaker won an Oscar for the best male actor this year.
