Bomb diffusion/disposal is a field rarely touched upon in movies and finally, Kathryn Bigelow directs this very intense movie centering around bomb disposal technicians.

This movie premiered in Toronto international film festival last year and had a tough time getting distributors for a story centered on Iraq war even though the movie was shot in Jordan and Vancouver, BC.

One could die by cutting the wrong wire, or forgetting to detect a secondary connection, or a sniper maybe lurking by and the movie so eloquently portrays all possible scenarios.

The movie lead, Will, fantastically played by Jeremy Renner, gets called to Iraq, as the lead bomb disposal specialist of an army division gets killed. He is a very cocky individual, daring to go where his colleagues think he is insane or wanting to fulfill his adrenaline rush and putting everyone else at risk.

The movie dissects the mind of this technician(him tucking a box of trophy bomb parts(the real tough ones) under his bed, him opening the windows in his room(against the generally accepted security precautions) knowing that a mortar can come crushing through a roof, and even goes into show him removing all his heavy gear in another very tough diffusal sequence by opining that he might as well die comfortable if it happens.

Every scene is very carefully mastered and makes the audience to go through a labyrinth of emotions in an edge of the seat thriller.

The irony and probably the best sequence in the movie is when Will, after finishing his deputation, comes back home and goes to a mall to buy stuff and stops at an aisle displaying so many choices of cereals and disgustingly picks up a box and throws it into his cart(in a war mission, having food to eat is itself a challenge, forget about having choices to eat)
