“The Hurricane”-

This is the story of Hurricane. . . the story of Rubin “Hurricane” Carter. A film that showed just what he went through in his life. How he was always in the wrong place at the wrong time. And how 4 of the most unselfish people helped him in his time of need.

In the first hour of this 2 ½ hour movie, the story dragged a little. I understand why it did; they needed to fill the viewer in on all the events leading up to the most interesting part of the movie. It was worth the wait. Denzel Washington gave an Academy award winning performance as “The Hurricane.” Not once did I think of him as Denzel Washington, he became Rubin “Hurricane” Carter.

Rubin Carter was in the prime of his life. He was one of the top Middle Weight boxers when he was wrongly convicted of murder.

While in prison he wrote a book about his life, “The Sixteenth Round.” When a teenager from Brooklyn (Vicellous Reon Shannon) read this book he was inspired enough to help him. With the help of 3 Canadian activists (Deborah Kara Unger, John Hannah & Liev Schreiber) They attempt to get him out of jail. “Hurricane” Carter is known for saying that “hate put me in here, but love’s gonna bust me out.”

“The Hurricane” was written by Armyan Bernstein and Dan Gordon and was directed by Norman Jewison. I was pleasantly surprised to see Liev Schreiber in this film. He is one of the most under-rated actors today.

This was a phenomenal movie. The injustices that people have faced and still do face in our world can be very disturbing. The cast was brilliant. I would highly recommend this movie.

Enjoy!
