Although Hindustan Times is a very very popular newspaper and in north India it’s most powerful too, (probably having the largest readership in north India)
still HT - Scratch & Win contest (now closed) helped HT to cultivate its readership manifold, smartly.
in fact initially when this contest started no one took it seriously but later they did, when they saw the pictures in HT City, many people receiving Philips PC Monitors, Colour Television sets and CD players.
beside Philips Electronic goods, other prizes were Domino pizza and a Car in Mega Prize.
this contest began on December 9, 2001 and was open up till February 6, 2002.
many people from Delhi and neighbourhood, who used to read other newspapers, switched over to the Hindustan Times and seriously took the contest.
every morning people used to eagerly wait for the newspaper to come with the scratch card on the HT City (magazine section) and to try their luck, for many it worked.
hey! I also got one Philips CD Player on December 22, 2001, you can see that on the picture in my profile. (Receiving CD Player from indipop singer SUKHBIR)
(I don’t think they bribed me to write this on MS) it paid me for reading Hindustan Times from more than a decade.
my prize, the contest and a review on the contest by roop2001 of 22 January 2002 on MS prompted me to write these sentences days after the contest is over.
otherwise also Hindustan Times is a perfect newspaper
