''The Hindu'' is like an institution. I started reading this paper from my days as a boarding student. As a child I used to read the ''Young world'' supplement on saturdays. Basically I started reading the newspaper to know the latest happenings in sports. Politics never interested me initially. Today I am very interested in the politics of the nation, and the credit goes to The Hindu.
It has always given an unbiased and intellectual view on the happenings. It never staryed the way other newspapers have done; gross commercialisation. Look at papers like Times of India and Indian Express, you see more coverage given to Bollywood and Billionares than Politics and the poor. If you want to join the Indian civil services, then The Hindu is the paper for you.
The paper does suffer from some negatives though. It can be too conservative. It was one of the last papers to adopt to colour pictures. However its paper quality is the best in the country. It is the only newspaper which uses imported paper.
