I become a dotting father on the weekends - you see I am a devoted executive in an MNC during the weekdays!

So I decided to take the kids to a nearby park - and the nearest one was the Guindy National Park. It is about 3 kms from Adyar / Tidel Park.

Even though situated on the main road - very near to the IIT and Cancer Hospital - chances are that you might miss it - so keep a sharp eye on the gate just next to the Cancer Hospital.

As I drove down the main entrance, I was bemused, shocked and elated( Sabira Merchant might have suggested a "good" word) to see deers roaming outside the park amongst parked cars.

Having spent my entire life in a metro - and staying in another - seeing deers so close was a pleasant surprise.

Intelligent vendors sell popcorn for Rs 5 - perfectly gobbeled by children, adults and deer alike. This is what mass consumption is all about.

Buy tickets and have a great time in the park. Though there are areas where scope of improvement is present - but overall with birds - pelicans, macua; monkeys; snakes and lot of slides does make the kids happy.

Do visit the very well maintained snake park next to the main park. It is fansactic display of the slippery kind!

Unfortunately it was 6 p.m and the bookstore was closed - quite a number of intersting books were on display.

I was later told by friends that once upon a time, not so long ago, deer meat was sold outside the gate .

It was nice little place to spend a couple of hours.

One caution - do not visit on a Sunday - the place is terribly crowded.
