Story:

A Wild Take on Wilde’s Story Emotionally and physically isolated from family and co-workers, MIT graduate, Dorian is a programmer and AI developer. He’s not doing so well at work and his family life is in shambles. But no one knows what he’s up to in his secret room. Will his secret project which combines the latest in research from his company be a prototype that will change the world? He test drives it on his own world. And here’s where the fun begins.

Grey or a Darker Shade? This dark byte of science fiction opens with Dorian demoted to a dead end job in the Customer Retention and Relationship Department. However, our ambitious protagonist is secretly working to create D-RIAN(Dynamic Response Integrated Anatomic Neurosystem).

His relationship with his wife is all but dead and he lets D-RIAN help heal that. A wise move?

Short and Deadly Though little more than a nibble, this story is pacy. Building a robot in his own image, Dorian uses it to try and make amends with his wife.

He brings home his creation, the A.I-enabled D-RIAN, and interacts with it. At first, he keeps it in a box, from which it can only watch him and interact. But this is limiting. Things take a new turn as Dorian uses D-Rian to help with the book he's writing. He gradually "uploads" his brain into D-RIAN via a wired neural connection. Thus he can control the robot.

More uploads follow and D-RIAN is becoming more like Dorian. Will this super smart slave always be obedient?

Excellent Character Development In just some 30 pages, you will be drawn into this science fiction vortex of ambition. Slow at first, the story soon gains intensity.

Is this a modern take on the tale of Dr. Frankenstein?

Science plays God?  Technologically advanced beings abound in Nick Thacker’s stories. What puts this one apart from his other tales is the human element and the relationship aspect.  Like most of his writings, this terse black tale has a nasty twist.
