An offbeat and a brilliant movie!!
The sequel to The Gods Must Be Crazy offers much of the same lunacy and enjoyment as the original possesses. The humor is simple but not stupid and very very plentiful.
This time, the poor 'ol bushman sets off in search for his two small children after they hop aboard a truck belonging to ivory poachers.... collides again with the so called Civilized World on his way through. There's this awefully cute lawyer chick from NY he comes across, who's wandering in the desert after being stranded by a plane crash (also making her lose his pilot - who also happens to be a zoologist). The guy also becomes a witness to this loony hoopla between a Cuban and an Angolan soldier, who endlessly, take each other hostage when they become separated from their main armies.... and finally, in taking charge against the poachers.
The low-key delivery of the dialogue no matter how drastic the crisis, the animals performing like pros (which they may be but it doesn't show), the touches of insane humor ( falling through the bottom of the plane, leaping up tree trunks in a single bound)--all really tickle your sense(s) of humor. And the only word for the two kids is marvelous! The thought of those two poachers drinking their wagonload of water after the two children have played in it--and probably done what all small children do when in swimming--is a real grin. This is not to say that there isn't an undercurrent of some serious concerns running through the film, but they're not obtrusive.
The actors are nonetheless able to create intriguing characters ... this zoologist guy (as sober as hell), the lawyer female (gosh she's the cutest dame ever!!), the soldier and the poacher guys, the kids and the protagonist himself!
DO WATCH this movie for once ... you're really missing out on something!!
