Another album review... and this one's an all out winner without me having to write my three bits on it. Still, lets do it...

Time to play The Game

---------------------------------------------------------------------

When you shell out hard earned green for a CD of recorded music, you dont expect each and every song to be a winner. You buy a record for a few good tunes and accept the rest of the tracks (which are sometimes just space fillers) because you dont have any other choice.

However, you'll hit Jackpot with The Game - a classic piece of rock music by a classic rock band - Queen.

On Queen

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Queen has to be in the top ten list of greatest rock bands of all time. One of the rare bands to experiment with a world of musical styles, Queens works ranged from rock to punk, jazz to opera... a testimonial to the talent that the members of the band possessed.

Queen was a quartet of accomplished musicians. The lineup consisted of the late Freddie Mercury aka Farook Balsara (he had Indian origins), a man with an incredible voice and stage presence, the curly haired, incredibly talented guitar player Brian May, John Deacon on bass and Roger Taylor on drums.

On The Game

---------------------------------------------------------------------

On the sleeve of the album, you will find a note by Queen which says that this is the first album of Queen to use Synthesizers. The album is an eclectic mix of music that contains foot tapping tracks as well as a ballad or two.

The album contains 10 tracks plus a bonus track.

Rock It Tonight

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's the list of songs on this record:

  • Play The Game

  • Dragon Attack

  • Another One Bites The Dust

  • Need Your Loving Tonight

  • Crazy Little Thing Called Love

  • Rock It (Prime Jive)

  • Don't Try Suicide

  • Sail Away Sweet Sister

  • Coming Soon

  • Save Me

I cant pick a favourite out of that lot. Its one of those albums that you slip in and listen from song 1 to 10. However I'll highlight a couple of songs...

Dragon Attack features Roger Taylor's rhythmic pounding on the drums and a nice bass line by John Deacon. Brian May's great guitar leads and Freddie's throaty vocals complete the song. A foot stomping track!

Another One Bites The Dust is one of Queens more popular songs. The backbone of this song is its funky bass line by John Deacon and Freddie Mercury's throaty vocals.

Crazy Little Thing Called Love is another Queen hit that is in the rockabilly style that Elvis was known for.

The anti-suicide anthem, Dont Try Suicide features some nice lyrics that go ''dont try suicide, nobody's worth it... dont try suicide, nobody cares''

Sail Away Sweet Sister is a song written and sung by Brian May. A touching song.

My pick of the album is the Roger Taylor sung Rock It (Prime Jive) just because it always reminds me of the 70-80s era - nostalgia

Why you should buy this record

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Just to experience Queens innovative approach to music and the mastery they exhibited while crafting and delivering a song. While most people might just buy a BEST OF QUEEN compilation CD, I'd say this record makes a nice addition to your collection.

Queen is one of those bands that always offers a music lover, something or the other that they can enjoy and cherish.

When I hear that rock and roll,

It gets down to my soul,

When it's real rock and roll, oh rock and roll

~finis~

---------------------------------

I picked this record in a shop in Oman. There was only one piece left and the minute I took it, a British lady pounced on it and tried to do the ''batting eyelids'' routine with me because she wanted it too. That was one time where the gentleman in me (if there is one) didnt come out... and I bought the CD. Just goes to show that when it comes to music and human beings... you know what i'll pick ;)

peace.
