Letter to their CEO. - Will tell you whether you can depend on this place for cakes at all or not.
Dear Sir / Madam,
This is about a cake that I had ordered for my daughter's birthday. The cake was ordered on 31.08.2013, for the 7.09.2013. It was supposed to be a square 2.5 kg black forest cake with a picture on it. The cake was to be home delivered at 3 pm.
While ordering the cake I specified repeatedly that I needed a square cake, and also asked your manager Mr Pani, what the size of the cake. He guesstimated it to be about 1.25' and I had mentioned that I would send him a picture.
Subsequently, I sent a picture of that size (by email, which I would be happy to show) and also went back to him to confirm if the image was okay, and it would fit the cake perfectly. He confirmed, upon us asking him again.
We live at a walking distance from your Richards Town store. When the cake did not arrive till 4 pm, we went over to check. Your manager Mr Pani mentioned that the cake was ready. When we saw it before it got packed we noticed that it was nothing short of disaster. The image sheet was much smaller than the size of the cake face. The rest of the cake face had sheer ugly icing and sheer ugly decoration.
Upon asking your manager mention that is the way the cake would be. He also mentioned that the image would not be any larger. He also insisted, with tremendous arrogance and attitude that we had asked for the cake at 6 pm and thus it had not been delivered. He went on to locate with the bill to prove his point. He did not need to, because he had written 3 pm on my copy of the bill on his own. He refused to admit that the cake was a disaster, the fact the picture was too small, or that the cake was meant to be delivered at 3 pm.
We were left with no choice but to not accept the cake and get a refund of the advance amount. By the way, we had paid full amount in advance. The birthday party was to start at 4.30pm and we had little choice at that time. The catastrophe that your store and especially Mr Pani had caused, got me to ask for a compensation. What amazed me was his arrogance and his mentioning "There will be no compensation".
May be there won't be any compensation. But, I will tell you this: Had Mr Pani been my employee (I run a small business too), he would have gotten fired on the spot for lying to a customer, not keeping up a commitment and for showing misplaced attitude. If this is the culture that you spread in your company, you guys will not last long in today's market. And as people ask me about French Loaf, I will be narrating this incident to them and let them decide on their own about using French Loaf for anything.
I would think this email will perhaps not even elicit a reaction...and will be read by someone down the chain and not the CEO of the company, but I had to tell you this and let you know that as a customer I vehemently refuse to be treated shabbily.
