This one is a Jeff Goldblum classic. Released in 1986 it went on to become an epitome of molecular biology terror movies. It has a sequel to it called The Fly-2 released in 1989.

The movie is about Brundle Seth a brilliant introvert scientist who develops a ’Telepod’ which breaks down a living organism into a series of encoded-decoded numbers which the computer then transports in space.

Geena Davis plays the reporter Veronica Quaife who is sent by her editor to cover this ’’discovery of the year’’.

Initially, the telepods squish up all the organic material quite similar to the ’honey, I shrunk the kids’ laser machine in its initial developmental phase. Seth realises the problem by a brilliant experiment of telepod-ing steak to realise that the computer does indeed transport form but does not maintain function. Hence straightening out the fault he successfully transports his pet chimp.

Later Seth in an inebriated state telepods himself along with a fly, thus fusing them both. Seth is transformed into a living 6 foot fly. Climbing walls, losing his ears, eating food by spitting on them first. Really gross!!!

BrundleFly and his lady love Veronica try to find a cure but the fly genes turn this scientist into a killer fly.

The most scary scene is where Veronica delivers a wriggly maggot.

Something went wrong in the lab today...something very wrong...

My opinion?

I watched it as a child, grew on movies like these and on Robin Cook novels. I am getting my PhD in Molecular Neurobiology now. :)
