Cast: Johnny Knoxville, Seann William Scott, Jessica Simpson, Burt Reynolds, Willie Nelson. Dir: Jay Chandrasekhar. Yeeeee haaaaawww! The Dukes of Hazard has made it to the big screen. The movie directed by Broken's Lizzard's Jay Chandrasekhar loses the plot in the shuffle from TV to big screen. This is Dumb and Dumber set in Hicksville with a few car chases thrown in for good measure. And when they create an Oscar for bending over in a pair of tiny denim hot pants, I'm willing to bet Jessica Simpson will get it. Until then the warbler-cum-actress should stick to what she is good at: coming across like a few IQ points short of a goldfish in US reality shows. Despite being trusted with only a few lines in her role as eyelash-fluttering Daisy Duke, the over-fake tanned blonde gives the Black Forest a run for it's money in the wooden stakes. Bo Duke is played by gross-out comedy regular Seann William Scott, who has sniggered and belched his way through the likes of Road Trip, Dude Where's My Car and American Pie. He's admirably backed up by the smirking Johnny Knoxville, as Bo's womanising cousin Luke Duke. The plot is almost as flimsy as Daisy's outfits in this remake of the successful seventies TV show. Crooked commissioner Boss Hogg, played in very one-dimensional fashion by a perma-tanned Burt Reynolds has hatched a scheme to evict the folks of Hazzard County in order to strip-mine the land for coal. The wayward boys discover his dastardly plan and have to save the day. That's on top of Bo having to maintain his winning title in the annual car race in his infamous 1969 Dodge Charger, the General Lee. The rest of the film involves Bo and Luke Duke being chased by hordes of police cars across the state of Georgia, or the pair pursuing scantily-clad women. There are plenty of obligatory scenes where the General Lee flies over blockades of cop cars, while the boys shout their catchphrase: Yeee haaaww! They even manage to escape Hazzard county for Georgia University, giving them the opportunity to barge into the dorms of virtually naked girls. But compare this to last year's TV remake of Starsky And Hutch and it doesn't even come close. Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson turned it into a funny pastiche of the hit show. Whereas The Dukes Of Hazzard is merely a big-screen replica of the small-screen version with some smutty antics added. And some of the gags are as lame as Hazzard county's law enforcement officers.
