Sensuous, sensitive and bold-message in the movie

It’s a Bold movie – in the message that it has to offer. It’s not just your regular weekend movie, its work which will be studied and referred to in the years to come. It wakes you up as a strong cup of coffee on a bleary morning. It shows you the mirror in more ways than one. It talks about an issue which we all like to hide from…and what a way to show it!

Vidya Balan is the hero, heroine, vamp and villain all in one for this movie. Her show of skin is never vulgar and becomes quiet endearing. The sensuality and dialogues steal the show. As a simpleton run away from a small village who in the struggle to make a mark becomes “silk” the entertainment for movies in the 80's, she has done an amazing job. Coupled with accomplished actors like Naseeruddin shah who portrays a clear picture of the duplicity of a society which is hungering for sex, but ashamed to acknowledge this. The film’s story is about the creation, rise and fall of “silk” in a ruthless industry which discards people like used toilet paper, but the movie is about a lot more than that.

The only odd person out in the movie was Emran Hashmi, you keep wondering what is HE  in doing in such a good movie. Tusshar Kapoor does a decent job as the obedient and dumb brother of Naseeruddin Shah and a man who is transformed by “silk”. The music suits the movie but other than the “ooh laa laa” song you don’t find yourself humming any others for some days. The duplicity of the society which embraces silk the sex goddess at night and inside closed doors and discards her as rotten in public begins to hit silk. The last nail on the coffin comes when her own mother shuts the door in her face, the sense of rejection and of being used hits hard. The end of silk also comes from her own rebellious nature and arrogance which she uses to hide her sorrow and show her care-a damn attitude. She dives into drinking, change of lovers and depression and finally tries a last hand at making a survival movie which she loses. The only one she has in the end to turn to is her enemy and the one she looses her last fight to, Emran Hashmi. Sadly, he is very late in trying to bring life back to a dead soul.

It’s a must watch for entertainment and some deep thinking. I loved watching it.
