During my trip to Hong Kong sometime back.....I saw the bigger picture of global retail fashion and its seepage into people’s life there....I don’t have any Vuitton stuff as of current unlike my counterparts in Tokyo (Average 5 pieces....phew). Why did I check the movie? Meryl Streep, had liked Hathaway’s work in the princess diaries ( or diary mnt sure). Did I like it......yeah kind of. Who dominates the screen? The devil aka Streep of course. Who should see this movie? Neone who wants to watch a nice time pass movie ( movie sans any major impact) but it isnt what u’d label candy floss either. See if I divulge any plot here there would be no reason to spend your moolah at the multiplex but don’t go in if you want a plot...this and that...go for it bcos it enjoyable and thats that. But I guess u’d want a rough sketch of it so here goes....Hathaway is basically a journo in the making who gets an opportunity to work as a second assistant to the sharp, savy Streep. She has a tough time on job....dresses like a slob....carries starbucks and shoes for her boss....basically has a tough time and is on a breakdown’s edge when she receives some great styling tips from someone at work ( how she manages to accumulate that all label wardrobe on a so called petty salary is no short of a miracle....) Soon the little nobody is a vision out of Vogue covers and ends up disappointing her family and friends when the work just takes over everything else. She makes massive personal compromises to fit in calls frm Miranda, her devil boss. When Hathaway decides not to sell the remaining of her soul to the devil ( the tough mean taskmaster for whom her work as the editor of a fashion mag is just everything in life, the one who wont hesitate to stoop to the lowest point for professional gains.) there is a glimpse into every one of our souls...the wish to maintain some amount of integrity and honesty in our relationships. And then expectedly she calls it quits and it marks the return of the nice girl in NY. Performance wise, a great deliver from both the stars...there are other people who do a good job with their roles especially Streep’s first assistant. I’d say just go and watch it! Enjoy the bags...and the wraps.....and the shoes....couture heaven
