"The descendants", the talk of the H-Town, for a while now. Mostly for the kind of accolades, George Clooney has been getting for the kind of performance rendered. And, to get a taste of its hyped attention, I decided to give it a watch. And it was indeed worth it.

The movie is about family, and crisis, and all the messed up stuff we have to go through everyday. It also has a small but important subplot, about the decisions, we are forced to make, and the ones we choose to make.

The Plot -

Matt King is a lawyer by profession, and is the sole trustee of a very valuable stretch of land on the islands of Hawaii. When his wife runs into a tragic accident while skiing, Matt is forced to come back to take care of his two foul mouthed daughters, while dealing with his own emotions.

The subplot, as I mentioned earlier involves a land deal, that Matt has to decide upon to sell his ancestral land to a wealthy investor. To make it even harder for Matt, The person who is taking care of the Deal for the prospective investor, who is favoured by his Relatives, was having an affair with his dying wife. Amidst a truck lot of disastrous discoveries, how Matt copes up with his emotions and responsibilities, is the movie all about.

Cast -

George Clooney, as the Ageing dad of two daughters, was indeed splendid, worthy of the Academy award nomination he received. He amazingly portrays the varied emotions of an emotionally torn father/husband.

Shailene woodley, was another newcomer to look out for. As the foul mouthed daughter Alex, she delivers a suave performance. (PS, Did notice the extreme similarity between her and Indian Television celebrity Jennifer Winget. :))

Amara Miller as Scottie King, did a good job. Nick Krause as Sid, delivered the weird one-liners, that would let you slip a laugh once in a while, in this hugely serious flick. Director Alexander Payne, was very distinct about the emotions that each character displays, and what it tries to hide, and it was splendidly executed. This being his first notably successful venture, he was great.

Away from the usual, intense drama inspired Hollywood movies, this one blends in a bit of everything an enjoyable flick needs.

Verdict -
Overall, it is a great weekend watch. With great performance, and an interesting plot, you are sure to enjoy it. I know I did. I am slowly but surely letting go of my inhibitions that the so called academy nominated movies are such a drag!
